Kindle DX – $489, on pre-order for summer delivery
Amazon confirmed the Kindle DX this morning, as our Kindle community observed and reacted. Here’s what we know:

Availability: You can pre-order now for “summer delivery”.
Screen: 9.7-inches on the diagonal. 16-level grayscale. 1200 x 824 pixel resolution at 150 ppi.
Accessories: Leather cover available, for $49.99. Same style as the Kindle 2 cover from Amazon.
Dimensions: 10.4″ x 7.2″ x 0.38″
Weight: 18.9 ounces.
Capacity: 4GB, with 3.3GB available for user content. “Up to 3,500 books, periodicals, and documents”. That’s double the capacity of the Kindle 2.
New Feature: Auto-rotating screen – switches from portrait to landscape as you turn the device.
New Feature: Built-in PDF support. Hooray! Supported formats are Kindle (AZW), PDF, TXT, Audible (formats 4, Audible Enhanced (AAX)), MP3, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively. Amazon also supports the conversion of HTML, DOC, RTF, JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP to native formats.
Battery life: “Read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to two weeks.” Fully charges in approximately 4 hours, either with AC adapter or USB charge from your PC.
Included Accessories: Power adapter, USB 2.0 cable, battery. Leather book cover sold separately.
Warranty and Service: 1 year limited warranty and service included. Optional 2 year Extended Warranty sold separately.
And, as with the Kindle 2 model, you get 3G wireless with the device, and Read-to-Me.
