Our Anniversary Contest is now complete, and I thank everyone who entered. We had over 200 mini-book reviews posted by our members, who again live up to their reputation as voracious readers and thoughtful reviewers.

Five of you won $50 Amazon gift certificates, and we’ve now drawn our grand prize winner. Major high-fives to B-Kay, who wins a brand new Kindle 2. Hooray!

B-Kay has had a first-generation Kindle for about a year, so will now be faced with the pleasant task of deciding what to do with multiple Kindles (a surprisingly common dilemma in our boards).

Kindle firmware 2.3 released

Kindle firmware, for Kindle 2 and DX, is being updated to version 2.3 today.

The update brings native PDF capabilities to Kindle 2, along with a landscape orientation mode.

Question: What do Palm Springs, CA, Evansville, IN, Zanesville, OH and Arlington, VA have in common? Answer: They’re all hometowns of KindleBoards members.

From Bellingham, WA to Venice, FL, from Ottumwa, IA to Waco, Texas, our KindleBoards members have been sharing their pride in their hometowns. The challenge: “What should we see in your hometown OTHER than what would be in the travel guide?”

Cowgirl told us about the Elvis Chapel and the Lost Dutchman’s Mine in Arizona. Rhiathame surprised us with underwater pyramids in Rock Lake in Wisconsin. Kindle Convert’s hometown of Venice, FL is the Shark’s Tooth Capital of the World. The Hobo Museum is in Britt, Iowa. Hibbing, MN is where “Bus Andy” started Greyhound Bus Lines. Cooperstown, NY? Home of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Want to know the best place for beignets in New Orleans? Kathy says go to Café du Monde. Where to go for fried clams in Portland? Leslie says it’s Ken’s.
