A model's murder takes Cuddy into the jaws of the Boston mob
She was born Tina Danucci, but modeled as Mau Tim Dani., Her friends find the slender beauty strangled to death in her apartment, a priceless necklace of hers nowhere in sight. The police dismiss the murder as an impossible-to-solve botched robbery, so the insurance company hires John Francis Cuddy to do what the homicide detectives can't. But there's something the cops know that Cuddy doesn't: Tina's murder isn't just hard to solve, it could be deadly.

Tina was the granddaughter of Tommy "the Temper" Danucci, the invisible face of the Boston mafia. She turned her back on him to become a model, but hers is the kind of family that never forgets a child. Once Danucci learns that the police have lo...

I know the screen quality issue is a contentious one but after having seen the new Kindles (both models) next to the K3 at 9 different stores (Best Buy and Targets) it's clear to MY eye that the K3 screen looks better so I think I have settled on that model.  The new Kindles all had a greenish hue to the screen with less "black" writing.  The Nook ST, Sony PRS-T1, Kobo touch and Kindle 3 ALL were noticeably "whiter"  to me so either every single store got "bad" demos of the new kindles or there IS a difference.  I'd love to see a KT that isn't greenish when laid next to all the other readers as it would give me some hope I could get one but I don't want to gamble over and over.

So...if I go with the K3 does anyone know where a non SO Wifi only can be had new with Warranty? (Not Ebay btw)  I have found one refurb which isn't a total deal breaker but they don't have chargers usually and the price isn't THAT good.

Thanks all

I have two Kindle Keyboards (K3) and a Touch, and I don't think the Touch is greenish in comparison. I think the Touch has the same screen as the K3, it's just that there is a lot of variability in the screens. I returned (exchanged) a K3 once because the text wasn't as dark as on my other K3.

With regards to where to get a non-SO wifi-only, with a warranty - I think your only option is Amazon's refurbs. Here's a link:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_nr_p_4_0?me=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&rh=n%3A1267877011%2Cn%3A1267879011%2Cn%3A1293320011%2Cp_4%3AAmazon&bbn=1293320011&ie=UTF8&qid=1324396031

From what I'm seeing available right now (it does change from day to day), you could get the wi-fi only ($90) and then pay the fee to remove the special offers (30 or $40, I think), or what is more logical given the choices I see today, buy the 3G version that they are offering that does NOT have the special offers ($130). You'd basically be getting the 3G for free in this situation (comparing these two options).

You're right, they won't come with the AC plug, but if you have a USB to AC adapter for anything else, it will work. Or you could buy a generic USB to AC for just a few dollars. I think the refurbs tend to look like-new, and they have the full 1-year warranty.

The screen thing drives me nuts.  It's clear there are various grades and acceptable variations in the Pearl supply but every single one I have seen in the wild is greenish...and it's very obvious next to all other models and manufacturers.  I see people online saying theirs isn't but since I have seen about 16 different Kindle Touch/k4s at all the different shops (some had both new models) and they ALL were greenish I just don't know what to think.

You can buy the SO refurb that is currently available, then upon registering, pay to have the SO removed. It's a pretty easy process than can be done on the Manage My Kindle page at Amazon. I bought a K3 before the SO model came out, but when Amazon began the opt in/out option I turned the SO on for a week, didn't like it, & switched back. Only difference for you would be the extra $50.

Cool I would suspect the store's lighting to be the culprit, if you take the KT or K3 out in the sun I bet there wouldn't be any noticeable difference.
Kind of like the nice red meat color in the grocery store, which, when you leave the store, no longer is the color that enticed you into the purchase.
The lighting in BestBuy and Target is probably designed to make SOMETHING look better, just not so much the Kindle screens.

The store lighting theory doesn't make sense to me since the K3 and all other brands of E-Readers present do not exhibit this greenish color in any of the Best Buys or Targets I have compared them in.  If the lighting influenced a Pearl screen's appearance it would do it to all of them.

It is very obvious to me when looking at the rows of E-Readers in the multiple stores.  They are inches away from each other for comparison. Nook ST, Kindle 3, Sony PRS-T1, Kobo Touch....those screens all look about the same...then the K4 and KT are noticeably different to me at least.  I am not looking for problems and was ready to buy a KT as long as I liked it in person...and the screen issue was the first thing I noticed.

I've got the K3 and it's great, no need to update it to a newer model.
Best wishes, Stephen Livingston.
