Hey all,
I recently purchased a (Sh)Nook for my wife and she's thinking about returning it so that we might share Kindle libraries. Is it possible to add a second kindle to my existing account. If not, is there a borrowing function aside from being a Prime member? Thanks!

Sure you can add another Kindle to your account! I have 11 on my account, including my parents in California, my uncle in Arizona, and my family here in Texas.

Yep, you can register as many devices to your account as you'd like (including Kindle apps like Kindle for PC, Kindle iPhone app, etc), there is no limit. But some books have a limit of how many simultaneous devices it can be downloaded to - usually the limit is 6. But if you only have two devices, it shouldn't be a problem.

Yup, i got a load of devices on my amazon account, the sharing thing tho, think it might be limited to a few devices it can be "shared" to, think its about 5 or something. It's possible tho, you shouldnt have a problem

A reminder that discussions of how to remove DRM from ebooks are not allowed here. Posts that do so have and will be removed.
Most books will have a license for being on a max of 6 devices. If you delete the book from a device, that does free up the license for a new device. Some books have a license for fewer devices.
Some books have lending enabled. You can tell this from the book's product page. If you own the book, it will say at the top, "Lend this book to anyone you choose!" If you don't own the book, scroll down to the product information and it will say "Lending enabled."

and all that limit of 6 devices means is concurrent usage.. not 6 total in lifetime.. so if you and wife are BOTH reading the same book at the same time, that counts as two, but if you finish before she does and remove the book from your Kindle (remember it gets stored permanently in the archive) then you're just back to 1 license being used at a time.. Even with 11 Kindles/devices on my account, we have NEVER hit the limit of 6 at one time.

I have a kindle keyboard and a fire and my daughter has a nook and a ipod touch. and we both have a laptop. I added her Ipod touch and her laptop to my account and she added my laptop and my fire (with the nook app) to her account on B&N we do read a lot of the same books and this is the easiest way we could read the same books. We would have gotten the same kind of ereader but they were gifts and so we made it work for us.
