Which do you preferr reading on

I don't have a Fire but this sounds like an eInk vs backlit screen poll and I know I prefer eInk.

I prefer the e-ink reader over a tablet just as Amazon always has as they have used the argument ever since the Kindle came out that it was a much better experience than reading on a backlit screen. I do read on my tablet for a few minutes every now and then, mainly at night when I'm not sitting by a light, but mostly I just read my Kindle Touch.

E-ink Kindle, in my case a K3. I'd be lying if I said my poor K3 hasn't been a little neglected since my Fire arrived but when I do read a book, there's no way I'm doing it on my Fire.

Kindle.  I find the Fire's screen far too narrow for reading in portrait orientation.  Just a weird, narrow column of text.  And useless for big PDFs.

I don't mind backlighting that much.  I do a good bit of reading on my iPad 2.  Just couldn't stand the narrow Fire screen when playing around with a family member's Fire.

For most reading in general, just the regular Kindle.  But, I'll read PDF's and such on the Fire.

I only use my e-ink kindle when there is glare potential/sun now so I prefer reading on my fire. I actually prefer the back light and the touch ability.

I'll read on both my e-ink Kindles or my Fire at various times, but prefer my K3.

Kindle followed in very distant 2nd by Fire followed in close 3rd by iPad. I dislike reading on back-lit LCD's so much that my Kindle has a permanent home in the same carry sleeve as my iPad. I thought I could get used to reading the iPad when I don't have my Kindle, but no. My Kindle and iPad now go everywhere together.

I prefer reading on my Kindle Touch, but I don't mind reading on my Fire also. In fact, I do most of my in-home reading on my Fire now, especially before bedtime (and leave my Touch in my purse). I've read on my Fire for several hours at times and it hasn't bothered me. However, when I want to concentrate on finishing a book, I prefer to read on my KT, because there are less distractions. I find that when I read on the Fire, I take breaks from reading to surf the net, play games, etc.

I don't read much on my Fire, it's either my iPad or the Kindle, and I prefer the Kindle for pure reading...

I don't have a Kindle Fire, so I can't comment on that. I have a K3 Kindle Keyboard and two Acer Iconia tablets (7" and 10.1"). I use my Kindle more often for long reading sessions, but I do enjoy using the Kindle App on my 7" tablet more than I thought I would. The backlit screen doesn't bother me much, especially with the sepia background, and I love seeing everything in color.

My K3 is my favorite by far.  I do use either my iPad or Fire for magazines, something I am still having issues getting used to doing......I still much prefer "physical" copies of magazines, but I keep trying.

Since I got my Fire, I've only read one book on my Kindle 2. It just seems so weird to me now, and I much prefer the Fire. Yeah, I'm weird like that.

When I really want to get into a book and spend time reading - K3. I love being able to read without the distractions of ,essage notifications, chats, emails, games, and so on.

The distraction thing is moot for me.  Even if I'm reading on my Kindle, my iPhone is always with me and lighting up with e-mail or text message notifications etc.  When I really want to just focus on reading or whatever, I just ignore them.  If I'm reading on my iPad, it's the same.  If I'm really into it, I just ignore them just like I do them popping up on the iPhone beside me when reading on my Kindle.

I think the poll's results will be quite obvious - hence the marketing of the Kindle as an "e-READer" and the Fire as a "media device"...   I wonder how many of the Fire's buyers are actually using their devices for reading - or at least what % of their usage of the Fire is for reading... that could be a secondary/follow up poll question...

I never read e-books on my Fire; I read on my Kindle Keyboard.  I use the Fire mostly for surfing the net and playing with apps.  DH likes to use the Fire to browse the book store, though, because he likes seeing the book covers in color.  When he's ready to actually read a book he does so on his Kindle.

just an opinion:

e-ink on the kindle nt is my favorite reading experience. light, easy to page turn with palm of wrist, and the type in without they physical keyboard is very fast. the kindle 3 is nice and thin but a little too long, the k2 is nice, the nook simple touch is way too bulky, the kindle touch is too deep in from the bezel (to allow space for the IR), the kindle fire is like the ipad so the screen is too much like staring at a computer. one killer feature though, if you have an android tablet (or your phone for that matter) though like a samsung tab 7plus or probably even sideloading a kindle, you should try the moonreader app. it has the amazing "autoscroll" feature which does exactly that. it scrolls by pixel so you just lay it next to you and tuck into bed at night and you don't have to touch it or turn page at all. it just scrolls.

Can anyone post how the poll is going?  I only have a K3 and dont want to muddy the results.
