Finally, a title for my book!

I'm about 15,000 words in and up to now I did not even have a title. I have no idea why coming up with a title was such a stressful process. I'm planning on this being a novella so it was getting to the point where I felt like I needed one. Have any of you ever had to wait until the last minute to come up with a title?

I'm 62K words in and I still don't know what I'm going to call this thing that I'm writing. My other three books were just born with a title. But this one takes place in Scotland during Covenanter times. I've been calling it The Covenanters, but that sucks for an Historical Romance title. Who even knows who the Covenanters were? The era was also known as The Killing Time. Uh, no. Not for a romance novel. So, for now, I'm going with Naked Highland Torso.

So far I've been lucky this way--both Helper12 and Twitch were already called that in my mind when I wrote them.

Before I decided on the one that I've got, I had a few others in mind but then when I looked on Amazon, I saw several with the same title. I wanted mine to stand out so went with something else.

Titles are among the first thing I come up with before the first word of my books ever gets written. I tend to brainstorm ideas around titles and they've been instrumental in helping me find the premise of my books. Case in point, I've got a new book I've been planning to write. I know the title, but haven't the foggiest idea who or what it's about. But I know I'm going to have a blast figuring it out.

When I first started planning my trilogy, the first two titles came to me fairly quickly and made perfect sense for the books they were going to describe. Unfortunately, the title I was considering for book #3 was recently taken (The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore). Sooo...though I've still got plenty of time, I might have to dig deep for something that makes sense.

I'm at 32k and no title. For all of my previous works, a title was the easy part.

I've come up with great titles recently, but they're all for later events in this universe.

If I completely finish this book without a title, then I'll worry.

I can't even start a project unless it has a title, even if it's just a working title. For some reason it bugs me. I don't like naming my files with "YA Paranormal Thriller" or "That one idea with the mirrors and the demons". LOL, it just doesn't work for me. Sometimes I'll come up with a name I don't like just to have one, but usually I will try to get the final name before I start outlining the project.

Both of my movies ("Hunting Season" & "Burning Inside")had titles as soon as I had a "pitch" my books and short stories have a tendency to not get titles until they're done.
