 Huh   I have a Kindle 3 G and after a year of use I have decided that it is time to remove those books I no longer wish to keep, however having followed the instructions i.e go to home , select item, press LH arrow and click middle button this only sends the item to archive and does not delete the book from the kindle. Any suggestions as to where I might be going wrong.

Books you've purchased from Amazon will be shown in your Archive, but they are not stored on your Kindle and take up no space.  You can remove books from the Archive but will no longer be able to download them and will have to re-purchase them to read them again.

If you really want to remove books from your Archive, you do that online at Amazon through your account.  Go to Manage Your Kindle.  Each book has a dropdown "Actions" menu on the far right that has the option to remove the book from the library.  This action can not be undone, so be sure you no longer want access to the book.
