A model's murder takes Cuddy into the jaws of the Boston mob
She was born Tina Danucci, but modeled as Mau Tim Dani., Her friends find the slender beauty strangled to death in her apartment, a priceless necklace of hers nowhere in sight. The police dismiss the murder as an impossible-to-solve botched robbery, so the insurance company hires John Francis Cuddy to do what the homicide detectives can't. But there's something the cops know that Cuddy doesn't: Tina's murder isn't just hard to solve, it could be deadly.

Tina was the granddaughter of Tommy "the Temper" Danucci, the invisible face of the Boston mafia. She turned her back on him to become a model, but hers is the kind of family that never forgets a child. Once Danucci learns that the police have lo...

I have one question. I bought my Kindle 3 Keyboard last summer from Dubai and in the box was only an american charger. As I live in Romania, I bought an European adapter for the american charger but I'm not sure it's compatible because I don't want to destroy the battery.

On the original Kindle american charger says: Input: 100-240V ~0.15A 50/60Hz / Output: 5.0V 0.85A
On the European adapter: 10A 250V / MAX 2200W

Is it safe to use it?

Thank you.

Technically the specs do match up - most of these new power bricks are very smart and adapt to almost all voltages.... HOWEVER,  it would not harm to err on the side of caution and simply use a USB lead + USB 5V brick to charge the K3 instead (if you wanted to be safe)

Might I ask, what is an USB 5V brick?

It looks like this:

Does it have a USB connector on the other end of the "Amazon" white brick?   In which case, yes, that basically was what I was talking about *laugh*

I'm fairly sure you'll be okay - as the Amazon white brick does the down-conversion to 5V for the Kindle.  What you can do is actually plug it in _without_ the Kindle lead attached and validate it doesn't go "Kerblammy".

Personally I am loathe to use those travel adapters on the grounds of mechanical robustness and risk of shock (from the gaps), but electrically they don't do anything other than to connect the wires.

If while using it, my kindle goes "Kerblammy", I will come after you.  Cheesy

*laugh* if nothing else, contact Amazon CS and ask them.  I would consider them as the final say.

Personally I prefer to just plug it into my PC/laptop to charge, that way I _know_ nothing will go wrong.

My understanding is that the Kindles are designed to be fine with any worldwide standard current so the set up you've pictured shouldn't be a problem.  If the
numbers you gave are from that black plug adapter, what they're saying that's the max you should be pulling with it; the Kindle is well below.

What you've pictured is NOT a transformer or converter that might be changing the voltage or current -- it's just something that switches the plug configuration with no other changes.

And note:  my experience has been that if you are using a device that is designed to adjust to the appropriate current, using a converter/transformer that will adjust the voltage/current will cause the device to not charge properly.

When travelling in Europe (I live in the US), on any of my devices that have information such as "Input: 100-240V ~0.15A 50/60Hz / Output: 5.0V 0.85A", I only use an adapter such as you've shown.

You will be fine.

The only thing you might consider is to use a surge protector.
