A model's murder takes Cuddy into the jaws of the Boston mob
She was born Tina Danucci, but modeled as Mau Tim Dani., Her friends find the slender beauty strangled to death in her apartment, a priceless necklace of hers nowhere in sight. The police dismiss the murder as an impossible-to-solve botched robbery, so the insurance company hires John Francis Cuddy to do what the homicide detectives can't. But there's something the cops know that Cuddy doesn't: Tina's murder isn't just hard to solve, it could be deadly.

Tina was the granddaughter of Tommy "the Temper" Danucci, the invisible face of the Boston mafia. She turned her back on him to become a model, but hers is the kind of family that never forgets a child. Once Danucci learns that the police have lo...

Instead of a % off 100 completion displayed on the bottom right hand corner of my Kindle Touch, I'd really like to see a status bar with the feeling of pages running along the bottom of the screen. This could be about the same size as the text or smaller and start with a representative number of bars |||||||||||||| displaying pages that was reduced as I progressed through the book.

Or at least replaced with a page indicator such as 110/530. A percentage of book completion is really the least helpful way of telling me what page I'm on, and not as satisfying as seeing a series of bars being depleted.

I agree with you, my Kindle Keyboard has a progress bar across the bottom and I really do miss that on the Kindle Touch.  I'm hoping they give that back to us in a future software update.

We recently had a discussion about the removal of the progress bar on the Kindle Touch and it was suggested that you email kindle-feedback@amazon.com to let them know you'd like the progress bar to come back. Hopefully, if enough support for it gets back to them, they will add it on a future software update.

I wonder why they left the progress bar on the K4 (baby Kindle), but took it off of the Touch.  It's one of the reasons I chose to keep the K4 over the Touch.

Was happy to see it was still on the K4 Basic, and I truly miss not having it on the kindle apps for android or webos. Time to send email to add support for this on all Kindles and apps.

I can't speak for Android but Kindle for PC, Cloud Reader, and iPhone apps all still have the progress bar! On Cloud Reader, you just have to hover over the bottom for it to appear and with the iPhone app, you have to tap the middle of the screen to bring up the menu options and it shows. My Kindle for PC app shows it at all times.

Try this formula to figure out what page you are on: page = total number of pages * . percentage.  I use this formula all of the time to keep track of wher eI am.

Is there a way to tell from the menu page how far into a book you are? I forget sometimes which books I've read and which I haven't.

On all the Kindles I have (Fire, DX, K3Keyboard, K4Basic) there is.  On the Fire the percentage shows when you spin to it on the carousel.  On the others, there's a row of dots below a title -- the more that are bold, the further into the book you are.

I really miss the progress bar on the Touch and have sent an Email asking for its return.  The thing I liked knowing was not how far I was in the book, but rather how close I am to the end of a chapter.  A chapter break is the logical place to stop reading.

I don't have any problem with the % as I can figure out how much book I have left.  The only plus that I can see for a progress bar is it shows how big the book is.  The only way I can tell on the touch how big a book is how many page turns it takes to go from 1 percent to another.  Maybe after some thought a progress bar would be good.  However, it's not critical for me.

I love the % read. In fact I prefer it now - when I read a regular book I'm constantly looking down to check my progress and just reading the page number is of no help whatsoever  Tongue. On the K3 I can press the menu button to check progress in pg numbers.

Pages don't mean a lot to me on an e-reader. Pages are an artifact of the printed page, for me, the only use for pages is so that I can communicate where I am with someone with a printed copy. I had gotten used to locations. Percentage is useful, but I like to see the locations: 10% remaining on a book with 5000 locations is different than 10% remaining with 10000 locations.

I hated the progress bar. It was annoying and I hated that it made the bottom of the page look so busy. I like just having the percent in the corner. I hope that they don't bring it back, or if they do, that they make it optional. That way if someone wants it they can have it but they don't have to force it on people (like me) who hate it.

I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't like the progress bar. It interferes with me becoming absorbed in the story. I'm always glancing down to see how much more I have to read or how much I have read. Reading books becomes almost a race to see how quickly I can finish. It just shouldn't matter to me how much more I have to read as long as I'm enjoying it. Not as bad on the new kindle since the bar is smaller, but the one on my k3 seems huge and distracting. That's just me though. I want the "page" and my overall reading experience to be as clean and clutter free as possible, which is why I'm also glad the new kindle has no physical keyboard. Enjoy the ride and don't be so concerned with how long it takes to get there.  Wink

Different things work for different people.  I can't say that I ever noticed what was on the bottom of my screen on my K1, and I always have to look at my various K's to see what's actually there once people start commenting here, LOL!  Percentage works fine for me when I do want to check, but that's me.  I think it would be nice if Amazon would let people pick what they want visible on the reading screen.

I wonder if they'll come out with a Kindle that can be customized. That would be pretty cool.  Smiley

Given Amazon's history, I wouldn't hold my breath. They seem to even more militantly against  customization than a certain company with a fruity logo.  Grin Grin
