Hi, I just got my new Kindle Touch. Have charged for five hours using a wall charger and the green icon light shows it is fully charged. However, the battery icon in the upper right corner of the Touch shows only about 96% charged and no matter how long I leave the Kindle on the charger, this doesn't change and the green fully charged indicator light is displaying. I know the icon is small and I'm not misreading it - it really does only show about 96% full. I called Amazon customer services and they say this is a known problem with the Touch; that the battery icon on all Touch's only displays about 96% full even when completely charged. He said Amazon is even considering removing the icon on the Kindle because it is confusing people. Is this something others have experienced? I want to make sure I don't have a Touch with a dodgy battery! Thanks.

Now the battery indicator light is also switching between green and amber when it is plugged into the wall charger for no reason. One minute the light is green and then it changes to amber! I have no idea if the battery is fully charged or if the Kindle is faulty....

Mine does this also too. I made a thread about it actually which is here: http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,100595.msg1544983.html#msg1544983I wasn't sure what to make of it, but considering it happens to more than a few people that I've talked to on various forums, and it behaves fine otherwise, I've decided I'll likely just keep it.

I have had both of the issues mentioned in this thread - the Kindle Touch when fully charged (on charger overnight with WiFi turned OFF) looks to not be completely charged based on the Battery Icon. And i have woken up early in the morning and looked over to see the charger light green and yet when I get up when the alarm goes off it has turned back to orange like it is still charging.
But since the charge holds for long periods of reading (with the Amazon lighted cover), I just don't worry about it. I think that the Touch lasts as long or longer than my Kindle Keyboard.

Hmmm, hard to know what to make of it. I just want to know that the battery is in fact fully charged and at the moment I am unsettled by what I'm seeing. It's bugging me to see the icon not quite at 100% when I have tried to fully charge it. My concern has been exacerbated by the green to amber to green indicator light issue - it just seems wrong that it changes like this when I don't have wifi on and am not using the Kindle when it happens. I've never had another electronic device that does that. Just hard to know if this is a fault that I should deal with now or just learn to live with it....

You could always return it and try another one and see if it behaves the same? The thing that is baffling me is that Amazon CS told you they are considering removing the battery icon. How the heck would we know how much battery is remaining then? Strange.

I'm not worried about mine doing that stuff. Since there are multiple people with the same issue and it's a known quirk, it's not really a big deal to me. It works just fine and at this point I have no desire to load all of my books to another kindle if I don't have to. It's under warranty for a year and Amazon is very good about replacing kindles if there is any kind of an issue any time during that year (and sometimes even after the year is over!), so I'm going to wait it out. If it acts up at some point later I will give them a call.

I feel the same way as KindleGirl. Mine has both of those issues, too, but I have no interest in having to reload and re-sort my Kindle if I don't have to. There are almost 300 Kindle books just from Amazon, plus all the ones I bought from other sources. I really don't want to have to do that again - it's a real PITA. Though totally worth it when I'm finished.
