1.- I have many books in my manage my kindle at Amazon, all told, 294. Is there anyway to tell which ones have been read? Never did collections, so no help there.
2. - Have more than one kindle now, so when clicking on buy it, does it matter which one I send it too, or can it go to anyone of the devices I have registered, like android, webos, kindle's and is it still available to download to any of the others? 3. - If I de-register the kindle I use for 1click, will all the books still be in my library to download to other devices, or do I need to download them totally to a new K4, or other device, for them to stay there?
I understand you can have up to 5 devices, ooops, guess I now have 5, without even realizing it, NC/N2A, SGP5/android, HPTouchpad/webos, K3, and K4/basic.
Have K3 up for sale, and need to know before I sell and de-register it. Thanks for any help with this.

1. Look at the row of dots below the title. It's sometimes hard to see, but if you have read a book all the dots will be darker. If only some of them are darker, then you haven't finished the book. It may be time to start using collections (or Calibre).
2. You can send a book to any device you have registered. Or all of them, up to a limit of 5 (I believe).
3. Your Archive is tied to your account, not to any particular device.
You can have more then 5 devices. I have three Kindles, two iPod touches, an iPad, an Android phone, and my Mac registered. You can only send the book to a limited number of them at once, though.

Thank you Mike, info was helpful. Guess I'll have to open them one by one to see where progress bar is to weed them out. Do need to look into Calibre also.
Whoops, didn't read right, row of dots beneath the Title. Gootcha, on the menu page! That is pretty easy, never paid much attention to that on the menu page, mainly look at it as a seperation line.

1. I don't believe you can tell from the cloud if you have read a book. If you haven't gone back to the beginning, on the Kindle you read the book on it will show all the dots dark on the Kindle home page. The black dots only show up if the book was read on that Kindle (or if the book is opened after downloading to a new Kindle).
2. Yes, you can send it to any device on your account and then to another device up to how many license that particular book has.
3. Yes. The books are tied to your account and you can de-register any device from your account without affecting the books.
I have pulled up Manage Your Kindle and have looked at books that I rated on my Kindle and don't see the rating. However, I can't remember how to get over to where I can view my media and tag it. I wonder if the ratings I gave on the Kindle show up there (I rather doubt it but if it worked that would be a way to see what books you have read while looking at the cloud).

Vlad is back, and this time he's hungry. I mean, really hungry. I could explain the plot of this one, but I think I'm going to eat, instead. Steven Brust's synopsis of Druz.

Most books can be simultaneously downloaded to 6 devices, but the limit can be fewer. If it is fewer, it will be listed on the product page. If you remove the book from a Kindle or app, that frees the license up again for reuse on another Kindle or app.

So, does it automatically know that you have removed the book from a particular Kindle?

I believe you have to sync.

Once you've synced up it knows any book you removed is no longer on the device and the license is freed up. If wireless is on, any Kindle will 'phone home' periodically, though I've not been able to nail down how often. It usually will when you first turn wireless on, and if it's WiFi only, it seems to check pretty frequently. Less so for a 3G connection. Still, you can always manually force a sync to be sure that it's done.
