This question is for those of you who like to listen to music while reading. I decided I'd like to try this feature to block out TV sounds and just to try out another one of my Kindle 3's talents. I don't think I would like listening to lyrics...too distracting. Maybe some classical or even some peaceful nature background sounds. Any suggestions?
As long as I'm here, I've got another question. I just started the free trial at Audible.com. How about a suggestion for best listen/read?

Mozart piano concertos. I have the radio on right now and they are playing one of them. For me, almost anything classical and not loud.

I would agree - classical. I would add that jazz as well, with the volume turn down low. Overall, I would say anything instrumental with no words.
Maybe it's me, but I find it difficult to read and listen to anything that isn't instrumental. If I am listening to R&B, I start singing and there goes the reading. LOL!

I don't listen to background music while reading very often, but I do enjoy gentle piano music. If you like Native American flute, this album may be an interesting change of pace—and it's free!

Go to amazon.com's MP3 pull-down, and type in: 99 most essential You'll find a series of classical music downloads with many hours of music for about US$5.00 each. And every few months Amazon has been picking one of these titles as a freebee, although none currently. There's another, apparently similar, series, which I have never tried, that can be found by this search term: 100 supreme classical masterpieces Because a restart brings you back to the first track, you may also want to check out the free ReOrganize! program to reverse or shuffle selection order: http://www.oliver-frietsch.de/

I have several of the Lifescapes CDs that you can buy at Target. My favorite one is the Celtic Dreams CD. You can also find them here for downloading. http://www.lifescapesmusic.com/p_64_Celtic+Dreams.aspx?&CategoryID=16

I use a thunderstorm mp3 I found online for free. Rain has always been very calming to me, and storms are my favorite weather.
The site had various tracks (beach, children playing, etc.). I'll try to find it when I'm on my computer.

I like nature sounds/music, too, and movie soundtracks, esp. without singing. As for audible, I like to hear some of my favorite British books done with the proper accents. I would have done Jane Austen, but I did a Charlotte Heyer "The Unknown Ajax", and the latest Outlander novel "Echo in the Bone". I am thinking about getting a humor/mystery by Dorothy Cannell, I think it's called "The Trouble With Harriet", because the sample sounds amazing. There is also a site to get older books as free audio books, I think it's called LibraVox. I'm sure there are other sites as well. My library also offers audiobooks online as a loan.

I have no need for background music. When listening to music, I tend to want to listen to the music. I have been known to have the TV on while reading. . but with the TiVo I can jump back if I miss something -- it's usually only chat shows anyway where there's not really anything to 'miss'. And if it's a topic I AM interested in, I pay attention and take a pause in my reading.

Someone gave me a CD called Brahms for Booklovers and if I'm in a mood for background music, that's what I put on. If I'm yearning for reading in the great outdoors when it's too cold to actually go outdoors, I've got Celtic Stream and Fung Shui Garden (both by David Sun, I think) that I enjoy. Last of all, if I need to really concentrate on what I'm reading, I've got some white noise tracks that I put on repeat. I tried loading them on to my Kindle, but the using (and stopping) the mp3 player and reader at the same time was clunky. I've gone back to using my iPod when I read.

No pushing, just wanted to let you know at least one person is interesting in the details when you have time... On topic, I don't use the Kindle to listen to music, but often have music on the DirecTV satellite music channels or my computer or iPod. Like many/most of you, it has to be instrumental or I get distracted (though sometimes I have favorite movies playing from my Tivo, which I can dip in and out of for favorite moments....it's just more for background noise). Yanni is always good - and I just found a free concert video on Netflix and Amazon for streaming that is excellent - as is Trans-Siberian Orchestra, even though there are quite a few songs with lyrics. I also have a bunch of those "99 most essential" type of compilations referred to above. Just depends on what I feel like listening to....

No pushing, just wanted to let you know at least one person is interesting in the details when you have time... Haven't forgotten about ya Here's where I downloaded my thunderstorm (also beach noise and white noise): http://simplynoise.com/downloads.htmlThe thunderstorm is the only free one; the others ask for a donation of your choice through Paypal. I'm having trouble finding the other site I used (they have more variety, e.g. children playing, grasshoppers, etc.). I thought it was the same site but apparently not. (Sorry, it's been so long since I downloaded them.) I'll keep searching and post back.

I really don't like to have background music but I do sometimes need to block out environmental noise while reading. I find that having this mp3 on my Kindle does that very nicely.

For Classical: Chopin--especially the Piano Concertos. Rachmaninoff piano concertos, or Rhapsody on a Theme of PaganiniErik Satie Prokofiev Piano Concerto And soundtracks are always good. One of my favorites is Elmer Bernstein's To Kill a Mockingbird. Here, try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t98LWNwUhI

I've never been real big on movie soundtracks, but his Dances With Wolves soundtracks is amazing. One of the few I've ever bought, many years ago after the movie came out. I see that album has one song from it, but the entire soundtrack is great.

The musical scores to video games can be quite beautiful, you could try these: Also, many television shows put out CDs of the musical scores, I have many for Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Supernatural, etc... very good "ambient" music, with a nice variety of moods.

I have classical music on my Kindle that I love listening to while reading. I also love Pandora. Some of the stations I listen to are: classical, nature, Percy Faith, Mozart, etc. Pandora's great because you can tailor mood music instantly.
