Sometimes there are things far more important than deadlines, writing projects and constantly checking sales. Today I took my son "2 years old" fishing way out in the mountains and watched as he caught his first trout ! We had a blast until it got cold, but d*mn am I proud of him. It was indeed, a much needed break. now, back to the grind.

Sounds great. I think of things like that as recharging the batteries. You draw a lot of juice when you write. It's important to refresh the raw material from time to time.

Yeah, that's exactly what it's like. I'm refreshed and ready to work. Just being out there in the Blue Ridge always seems to ground me to reality, hell I don't feel right unless I get out in the wilderness for a while every so often. I absolutely love where I live.

I agree, and what a wonderful moment. Children grow up so fast -right before your eyes. My daughter performed at a festival today with her dance troupe. I love to watch her dance. She is so beautiful. It just makes my heart soar.

That is the truth, time is something you never get back. The place I took my son is about a halfmile hike and, of course, I toted him most of the way, but the smile on his face as he reeled in his first fish will be etched in my memory forever. Priceless stuff.

No one has every passed St. Peter at the Gate, stepped inside and then thought, "Gee, I wish I'd spent more time at the office."

The most vivid memories of my daughter as she was growing were formed in a small Alaskan stream, trout fishing, with half a dozen Kodiak bear about three hundred yards upstream catching their dinner of salmon. She was nine. The picture will never leave my memory.

Thanks for sharing, J.L.

I spent the day at the Zoo with my parents, wife, and kids today.  It was nice to get away from my laptop, which is with me 99% of the time, no joking.  Got to pet some stingrays too.

What a great memory to have--you'll get a kick out of telling him about it for the rest of your life.   Grin  It's good to realize that we need a break from this writing obsession, because you can write anytime, but once these years are gone, there's no going back.

Just .02 from a mother of two grown sons and one who thinks he's grown.

An actual trout? It wasn't a Wii experience?

Good for you! Life passes by so fast especially the older you get - grab those precious memories NOW before they're gone forever.
