I tried the K3 FAQ section but couldn't find the answers. Kindly refer me to the right thread if previously covered. Question: Without hacking, is there a way to change the Kindle Keyboard (K3) dead authors screensavers to the K4 screensavers (pen tips, etc.)? Thanks in advance for the input.

No, there's no way to change the K3 screensavers at all without hacking.
You would need to hack the K4 to get the pics off it in the first place - and I'm not even sure if there is a hack for that yet - but in any case you would definitely have to hack the K3 to transfer them over.

Anyone know where I can download the K4 screensaver images (printing things) - I really like them.
New to all this frankly.

Hi, Dicken, welcome to Kindleboards!
I wouldn't imagine that Amazon would make the pictures available so you'd have to get them from someone who had a K4 and could do some sort of screen grab - except I don't think you can do that when the screensaver is on anyway. As I don't think there's hack for the K4 yet, there's no way to get to the actual files either.
Anyone know any different?

Thanks Linda for the advice! I don't feel like hacking at all so I will live with my dead authors for now... At least my k4 is resting with wonderful screensavers...

Thanks Linda - my wife has a K4 - but no idea how one would access the files - can you do it by plugging it into a laptop and treating the Kindle as an external storage device or something ?

Even with hacking it should be noted that if your Kindle is a Special Offers Kindle, I don't think you'll be able to do anything about screensavers. . . at least. . .the hack developers have previously said they won't design hacks to circumvent something you agreed to in order to get a discount. The hacks Morf linked to will, I believe, only work on NON Special Offer Kindles.

Is there something different about non-so kindles versus so kindles where you've paid to turn them off? I was wondering whether the hack would work on mine, or whether there's something specifically about them that would cause the hack not to work.

As far as I'm aware, once you've paid to turn off the offers on an SO Kindle it becomes just like a non-SO Kindle and can be hacked in the same way.
However, I would take a look at the screensaver hack threads on Mobileread because the more technical stuff tends to get discussed over there.

Agree with Morf. . . .I don't know a lot about the hacking as I've never seen the need for it. But when you buy out of SO's that basically means you're back to the 'regular' screensavers. Heck, I can 'opt in' on my old K3/Keyboard. And opt out again and in again and out again as often as I want. So I'd assume a 'hack' that was designed for a non-SO device would work just fine -- I've no idea if it would STOP working if you opted back in to SO's. Definitely ask at Mobileread.

Figured I'd put this here in case someone else was looking. It looks like you can use the SS hack if you opt out of the special offers: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=160454. Though, the hack is very basic, and requires a specific graphic format, and requires a naming convention.
