its a set of usually 5 to 9 books published by Baen - or the partner publishers - that month bundled together into a single collection.  It's usually cheaper than buying the books individually but sometimes the books in a bundle repeat (it may appear in a bundle with the hardcover release and then again with the mass market release).

Luckily they leave the bundles up on their site so you can still buy them long after the initial release month.

I  love them, I usually grab one if I find that 4-5 of the books are ones that I'm interested in and haven't read yet

It appears to me that only nightshade publishes a monthly bundle.  Have I got this right?  What sorts of books does nightshade publish?  It appears to me that they publish sci-fi books?  Does BAEN offer monthly bundles?

they are all ebook copies - they just correspond to the hardback and paperback releases....  The February release already happened: http://www.baenebooks.com/p-1592-ns201202-february-2012-night-shade-books.aspx ... it appears to be smaller - just 4 from Night Shade Books and this batch looks like it's the same price as buying them individually .....

Found everything from BAEN and the February bundle as well.  Seems to me a great way to get my feet wet as a newcomer to sci-fi in a lot of the great works and at great prices too.  I'm picking an arbitrary starting point of December 2010 to start with.

They are usually available well before the months, but some books may be only the first half until the publication date is reached then the full book is released for you

I picked up the BAEN bundle for January 2012 last night and it was a great bargin, came out to be approximately $3 per book and I read just a tiny part of one of the books and it looks like a great deal.  This seems like a great way to get my feet wet in the sci-fi books.  I will most likely continue to be a customer for the BAEN bundles in the near future however that will need to wait until I can conclude the bundle that I bought last night, I read quickly but not that quickly that I can plow through that many books in a month.  In addition I will need to back track on the Mercedes Lackey A World Divided series, which was book two in a series - obviously book two is no good to me without book one, so I will need to backtrack a little bit and buy book one separately.  However I think that the bundles have made a believer out of me.  I think I will do my book buying with BAEN almost exclusivesly via the bundles, unless there is something that I must absolutely have such as the book one of the World Divided series.

I would like to say that I recently have discovered BAEN's book bundles.  They are a cheap (generally $3 per book) and great way to become familiar with an assortment of of some of sci-fi book's great writers of our time.  For one low price you get typically seven books in one package.  I have recently bought the January bundle and I am having a great time reading the books, although I have had to do some backtracking as the books included book two in a series, which are not much good without book one.

Baen put out some great books, definitely. And I met Mr. Baen himself at a convention one time -- an interesting man with strong opinions about publishing.
