Fully? About 3 hours. And that's with the USB charger plugged into the wall, not into my computer. It takes a lot longer plugged into a computer.

Thanks, Sean.  Looks like I'll be needing to invest in the AC charger.

my DX charged in about 3 hours through my mac, but your mileage may vary.

and no, not all new kindles come with a wall adapter, some only come with the USB cord.

oh, and you can get decent (cheap) wall adapters at radio shack.

Or look on eBay--you can get them for a buck or two.  We keep micro-USB's all over our house, so everyone can keep all their favorite little devices charged and ready to go.

If you're looking for cables and such, I usually go to monoprice.com.  I've had nothing but good come from that site, and very inexpensive to boot.

They are 100% correct but before you buy make sure you call them Micro-USB cables.

My DH kept insisting on using the computer/usb to recharge his kindle & complaining not only about how long it took but that it never seemed to completely charge.  Once I finally convinced him to use the ac adapter he's never looked back.

Also, if using the computer usb port, use one of the main ones, not one on a keyboard or monitor - they don't carry enough electricity to do the trick.

Agreed that the wall is faster, but it's not completely accurate to say that a keyboard or monitor port won't work. . .depends on the port.  I have two on my monitor and they both work just fine -- not as fast as the wall, but just fine.

I'd also caution that if trying to charge via a laptop, the laptop it self ought to be plugged in or it won't work.
