My Russian parents have dropped a few not very subtle hints about having a Kindle.  So I decided to get them one to read.  (My father is recently retired and must be getting bored.)  Does anyone know, however, where I can get them books in Russian to read?  Not the classics, neither one is into that.  My father would probably like thrillers.  My mom romances.  But in Russian.  Either Russian in origin or translated into Russian.  Anybody know of a source for that?  I tried googling, but not very successfully.

It looks like kniga.com is now offering some titles - although I suspect it's all in a pdf format:

And if you give the Send to Kindle device a try, it may render PDFs in such a way they can now be read without much grief on a Kindle. That's the legend, although I've not tried it myself yet.

Books from other sites must be in a compatible format to work on Kindle. . .generally that's .mobi or .prc

OR the books must be non-copy protected so that they can be readily converted -- usually using a third-party piece of software -- to .mobi or.prc

Files that are PDF won't really look good on the Kindle, though they technically work, because, usually, the PDF is formatted to display best on an 8½ x 11 or A4 sheet of paper. . . .when that's shrunk to the size of a standard Kindle screen the print is too small to be comfortable for most people.

BUT, PDF format files can be converted as well, by sending to the Kindle -- though you have to do it by attaching to an email and putting the word "convert" in the subject.  The "send to kindle" utility isn't set up to convert them.  Also, they must not have any copy protection for Amazon to do the conversion.  A third party package like Calibre or Mobipocket Creator will do the job, too, though.

Thanks for this link!  It actually says there they have several formats available, including mobi.  Do you know this site?  Have you ever ordered from them?  Are they legit?

I haven't ordered from them but I think they are affiliated with RussiaDVD from whom I ordered couple of films - perfectly legit as far as I can tell(and nice people, too). Both stores are in NYC.

I looked at them and they do seem to have a store in Brooklyn, NYC.  Funny thing is: they're in the same zip-code as my parents!  Cheesy

The second and third book on my signature is purely in Russian. The first one, The Roaming Renegade, is an English translation of a Russian book about an immigrant from Russia who went to Coney Island, New York!!!!!

Hope that helps, just to let ya know. Enjoy. And, horoshego chiteniya!!! :-) (-:

There's a pretty good community of Russians in Brooklyn.

As others have mentioned, http://www.kniga.com/books/   is a good place.  They're linked from RussianDVD (http://www.russiandvd.com/store/) which if I recall was originally RBCMP3 in one of its earlier incarnations.

There's also http://www.rumvi.com/  which has ebooks.

And also RusKniga:  http://www.ruskniga.com/   which is another really good one.
