Just curious if Kindles have become popular for bedtime reading?  I was excited to get my kindle for Christmas since it's so light and I no longer have to hold a giant book over my head like an anvil.

Absolutely!  I read every night in bed.  I now have a lighted cover for my Touch but before I got that I used an M-Edge E-Luminator light because I like to turn off all the lights in the bedroom.

Yep, ditto... I love reading my Kindle in bed. Smiley

My 70 year old dad LOVES his Kindle too. He reads his just about everywhere. In bed, his recliner... and he takes it to work too. He's one of those "retirement drives me insane in the winter" people, so he works the night shift as a guard at a factory - so he has pretty much his whole shift time to read. Smiley  He loves having so many books to choose from and they are all on his Kindle.

I love it. Reading before bed is where I get the majority of my reading in. It's so much easier to hold my kindle then it was to awkwardly hold a book in bed.

I usually place a pillow on my stomach and rest the book/Kindle on top of it so I don't have to hold it up in the air (just have to hold it up right but most of the weight is on the pillow) but even so, it's easier with a Kindle because I don't have to hold the book open.

A Kindle hitting the face isn't nearly as painful as a heavy hard cover book!

I read every night in bed. Sometimes I use a book light, and sometimes I just leave on the overhead light. It's nice being able to use one hand to read because I always find myself in strange positions.

I love reading my kindle in bed! So much easier than trying to use a book light on a hardback book and then turning pages without hitting the light!

I read in bed on my Kindle pretty much everynight before sleeping.

That's the main time I do my leisure reading actually.  I tend to spend free time before that on movies, sports, video games etc.  I read and write a ton for work, so I need to get do something else to unwind for a bit before reading.

The other time I read on my Kindle is on the treadmill/elliptical machine a few times a week. And of course during downtime in waiting rooms etc., though I usually read on my iPhone then.

Me too. Makes it easier to fall asleep, if I can read 1st. I use a Coylcushion to rest my kindle on.

I love that if you fall asleep and wake up a few hours later, you haven't lost your page, or found your book with a bunch of crumpled pages on the floor . . . . So far my Kindle has not taken a trip to the floor. *fingers crossed*  Smiley

Every night, for a few years now.  Usually on a kindle, but sometimes on my android tablet.

Haha, agreed.  Here's hoping for the safety of both of our Kindles.   Wink

Unless you have a really high bed and hard flooring in your bedroom, it should be okay. Especially if it's in a case/cover. I dropped mine a couple times from about my bed's height and it was fine.

I find that I never drop my Kindle or lose a page the way I use to with paper books.  Love it for night reading!

Yes, I usually read every night before bed. At some point, either my husband or my son comes into the bedroom, removes my glasses and puts my Kindle on the nightstand. I love those guys.

My two times for reading are just before going to sleep, and in the mornings while having breakfast. It's just a little bit of quiet time before the day starts, and as the day ends.

I rarely read in bed, but when I do the Kindle is great!

Never, I have what is often refereed to as chronic type A insomnia which means that I can't get to sleep (the type A) but once I manage to get there I have no trouble staying there (type B can go to simply can't stay there) and I can never shake this insomnia (the chronic part).   My MD has told me to never ever do this, because I am an insomniac, the bed should be used for two things: sleeping and something husband and wife do together.

I love the Kindle for carrying about and reading during the day but not so much for bedtime reading. The various hang on lights are of limited use so lighting is a problem, particularly if you don't want to disturb your bedmate. However, the back lit e-readers are great for bed time use. On the other hand they are a pain for daily daytime use due to their weight and limited battery life. So the answer for me is to have and use both.

Watch out for wastebaskets or other objects with hard points beside the bed. The screen of my K2 cracked when I fell asleep reading and my Kindle fell onto the corner of the wastebasket. It was in a case but that did not help as the case was not closed. I have since moved the wastebasket and made sure that there are only soft items beside the bed. I also try to put the Kindle away before I fall asleep.

I use the same lighting that I used for bedtime reading pre-Kindle, a small light not attached to the book.

I've never fallen asleep while reading--be it a book, Kindle, iPad etc.

When I start getting too sleepy, I put it down and turn off the light. Cheesy

I try but I am that guy who falls asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow lol.  I want to read in bed but I get about 2 pages in and I am out.  I have to sit in my recliner in my room if I am going to read at night lol.

I read every night while waiting for hubby to finally get to bed. Haven't fallen asleep yet.
