This is a raw and honest account, although still a fictional story in itself, of the English Civil War although it leans heavily in terms of telling the tale from the perspective of a few rather than many, but it is a great read. If you do bag this though, then don't expect swishy feathery hats, hands on hips, and loads of "Ha! Ha! Ha! I laugh in your face, blaggard!" Leave that to Hollywood; here you get the real deal, both sides as cruel and as hypocritical as each other; and with most of the central characters lives affected by personal acts of evil, either perpetrated by them or done to them. To say more on that aspect would be somewhat of a spoiler, but, if life in the raw rather than dashing blades and comically grumpy roundheads is your thing, then you will enjoy this.
