I never thought I would be able to say that I have wrote a book. I just finished typing the last word to my psychological suspense novella which comes in at 31,861 words. It took me forever because I kept editing it along the way. Plus I just went back to work at a law firm as a criminal paralegal so my time is extremely limited. For the next one, I plan to just write and edit it later. Now, I have to find an editor. I passed an editing course at a local community college which covered all aspects of grammar, sentence structure and fiction writing. I also have been writing and doing editing for a marketing company for the past six months, however, I don't feel comfortable editing my own work. Isn't that bad? I have too much invested in it I think to be brutally honest. Oh my gosh, I can not believe it is finished. Just had to share!

Huzzah! The first of many hopefully I'm not so good at the whole self-editting thing either.

Congrats! And great decision to go ahead and get an editor. At the word length you quoted, it won't cost you too much and believe me, you'd rather spend that money now then feel defeated when a reviewer on Amazon points out something horrible that an editor could have saved you from!

Congratulations on finishing your novella! I know what you mean about the editing, too. I write a first draft quickly, but the editing takes forever.

I'd be interested in hearing how sales go for your Novella. I have a few out and sales are fairly good on them, but it's still early to tell (most of them have only been for sale for a little over a month).

Congratulations! That is a huge accomplishment!! Take a day off and then start your next one. I think it's a great idea to hire out your editing- sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees when you get that close to your work. Good luck!

Congratulations! Nothing better than that feeling of being done. I think having an editor look your manuscript over is a good idea. The better the book, the better the sales.

Just checking back and thanks for the support everyone...much appreciated. I looked on this board and got several suggestions for editors. I think I found one to go with. Yes, it's a huge feeling to accomplish something like writing a book. It's been on my list of things to do forever. I will be super excited when I can finally click on Amazon and other places and see it on there!

Congratulations! Such a great feeling of accomplishment, isn't it? I think you're making the right call regarding editing. I wouldn't consider putting a book out without the help of my content editor and proofreader. Good luck with sales, keep us posted!
