Is there a way to cancel an order that I hadn't meant to place?

If you go to the amazon site, you can click "Help" on the right side of the screen and go from there

If you are talking about Kindle books, you can return those now within your account page under Manage my Kindle. On the right there is a dropdown next to each book and Return Book is one of those.
If you are talking about other things ordered, you will have to contact Amazon for that.

Returning Kindle Books
Books you purchase from the Kindle Store are eligible for return and refund if we receive your request within seven days of the date of purchase. Once a refund is issued, you will no longer have access to the book. To request a refund and return, visit Manage Your Kindle, click the actions tab for the title you’d like to return, and select “Return for refund”.
You can also click the Contact Us button on the right side of this page to reach us via phone, e-mail, or chat. Select “An order I placed” to see your recent orders and choose the Kindle book order you wish to contact us about.

I returned a book today via the Manage my Kindle page that I purchased last night with the click of a button. No problem at all.

I have done this too. It's the fastest, easiest way.

I'll note that the ability to cancel Kindle book orders through "Manage Your Kindle" is a somewhat recent capability; that it used to be you had to contact Customer Service. But Amazon did add the capability to Manage Your Kindle, so that's now the easiest way--assuming you have internet access. Betsy

And I'll note that the discussion is meant to be about how to do it. . . .not comments by authors that they have had books returned. (some posts were deleted )

And if you are ordering from the Kindle itself, you will get a screen after the purchase that asks if you made the purchase by mistake and includes a link there to return it or cancel the order.

Those posts from those authors were off topic, sure, but they were a very natural part of the flow of conversation. You have altered the historical record of what was actually said on this thread. Besides that, those posts were pretty interesting. (Who would think of returning a free book?) Likewise, the words I'm writing at this moment have nothing to do with the OP, but they are a very appropriate response to your comment.

Huh... I made TWO accidental purchases on Amazon.. I simply thought they were free reads (since they were grouped with some freebies in the "customers would bought this, also bought that" suggestion list). Well, with the 1-click purchase... I just realized too late. Anyways, they were not that expensive, but still. Why isn't there a confirm button on the browser amazon page like on the Kindle? Does anyone knows if there is a time limit to return the purchase (as in e-book purchase)? Thanks.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, as I thought you WERE talking about e-book purchases? There is a seven day no-questions-asked return policy, no matter whether you buy the e-book on your Kindle or on the web. But, as has been pointed out, you have the option right away to return a book on the Kindle. On the web, you have to go to "Manage Your Kindle," locate the book and return it using the dropdown menu on the right. Betsy

I've done that, too, with free reads ... accidentally purchased something I thought was free. Usually a link that's a few days old from EReaderNews, or whatever that site is called.
But I'd never think of returning it. I've gotten so many free books, I think it's fine to actually pay an author, now and then!

How do I delete an item that shows up on my Kindle Touch, but does not appear in my lineup on Amazon under 'Manage Your Kindle?' What's worse, I did not add it to begin with. I have my Kindle password protected and no one else has been on it.
Also, a couple of weeks ago, I accidentally added a book and there was a problem with my credit card. The book was delivered to my Kindle, but there is a message saying there was a problem..I can't get rid of the message, even though I've changed the credit info and it is now working fine. There's nothing about it on Manage My Kindle, so how do I delete that message?
