Author Topic: Create Space Authors-- Are You On Shelves in Stores?  (Read 537 times)

Just curious-- a friend of mine sold a decent amount of ebooks and a few paperbacks. She found her book on shelves in a local Walgreens. (I think it was Walgreens?)

Anyone else?  I asked her what she did and she had no answers, it was news to her.  I'm assuming getting into the library catalogs helps?

Just wondering. Tips and tricks mightily appreciated.

GO PATS!

Was she an AmazonEncore author? If so, then yes--those books are finding their way into stores like drug stores, Costco, Sam's Warehouse. I saw a line of AmazonEncore books in my local CVS drugstore last week. I am an AmazonEncore author for the book Silent Tears, and my last quarterly report shows that hundreds of copies have been bought from retailers since November, when the print rights were picked up by HMH, Mariner Books.

(and some were returned, too!)

funny I see reporst of sales thru the pro plan on my creat space accnt & wondered about it. Figured stores order books from time to time.

Now that they're changing the pro plan I have no idea how it will work -- or if.

I'm not in amazon encore so these are just random buys by stores somewhere.

This is a good question.  And I have another for those using CreateSpace:  Can you recommend stores you would like your books sent to?  Or does the store have to request them?  I can think of a number of independent stores that might have an audience for my mystery set in Wisconsin's Door County.  Just wondering if we can influence placement and how to go about doing that?

Small indie stores may be open to ordering some if you contact them with "local author" promo.  I've also known authors to do a consignment arrangement for signings.

That must have been a pleasant surprise. Can you imagine walking into Walgreens (a large chain store) and seeing your book on the shelves? I don't know if that means your friend has "made it" but it's certainly an awesome story to have.

Yes, two of my Createspace books A Teddy Bear Tale and The Wonder Tales are both on the shelves of the Ukazoo Book store chain  Grin Kind of nice to see you book up there with Traditional Published books, feels like a victory.

I wonder if there is a way to contact the chain... or book buyers in the chain to pitch your book to them? Hmmm?

I found a single copy of LOST Humanity at a B&N.  I had no idea!  It made me smile.

I spoke with B&N in New York today, they said and I quote "CreateSpace is our competition. We don't stock their books on our shelves."

Doesn't matter that I have the #9 book on their NOOK bestseller shelf. They don't do it. *pout*

Any tips from you would be appreciated! I have readers who are asking for it and Amazon does not have a physical store.

I think B&N recently announced that they wouldn't sell any Amazon books, so I assume than means CreateSpace books as well. Which is disappointing.

I'm hoping to get my book into independent stores in the area.  As for people who want to buy it but don't want to order it, you could always order a bunch at the author's price and sell them, either at cost or for whatever price you decide to set.

I have heard that Amazon intends opening a bookstore in Seattle. I live very near Seattle. I'm wondering if I should put my books on CreateSpace. That is not a question it's just a comment.

Silly move. I went to the Barnes & Noble near me and it was closed down on Dec 21. They might go the way of Borders soon.

You can buy copies of your book at the author pricing from CreateSpace and offer to mail them those readers who are asking for it, a signed copy. Might be a fun work around for now.

Getting into AmazonEncore is completely out of our control, right? You have to wait for them to take interest?
