I like the idea of that Mega Thread for Select experiences, and get weary of seeing so many posts reporting dismal sales--enough! Dump all your grumps here. Post all your fear of no more sales in the future, your lost and wandering sales; your sales returns; your bitches about nobody liking your books. Sure, there should be a MEGA-THREAD for the braggarts amongst us too, but you can't expect me to cover all the bases. Those with OCD can have a ball. (Hey! is KDP broke? Is SW going away? Are all the editors on the Big 6 firms on drugs? And what is Konrath having for lunch?)

Okay! Let's hear your in-the-dumps sales reports! Who has low sales? These have been blamed on the season, algorithms, hormones, the Mayan calendar, and Jonathan Franzen. What else has done you in? A 1 * review? A bite from a chihuahua? A critique group? (There has to be some reason besides your own hack writing, doesn't there?)

(There has to be some reason besides your own hack writing, doesn't there?) Nope. I suck at writing, people don't buy my books... that's pretty much all there is to it.

I have only sold 10000 books today. Don't know what's wrong.

To answer your questions: no, no, seems like it at times, and tuna sandwich on wheat bread (I checked my hidden cameras).

Well, most of my books have been blocked, I don't believe I can have lots of sales. Sorry to hear that. Hope you get it all fixed soon!

My strongest seller is down about 70% from early January; but then I noticed the proportional ranking is about the same. Oof ... people are buying a lot fewer books right now. Which I know is normal but I mean people are buying a LOT fewer books right now.

Well, my book has been out a month and it's already a failure. I loved that book, but its fate is to die on the vine. So sad for it.
Then I got the idea from another thread that maybe I've miscatagorized it, a memoir that's not really meant for memoir readers. Now how's that going to work? Maybe I'll have to post to Julie's thread, 'what's my genre'. But I already know how scary she can be if I don't have all my P's and Q's nicely put. And usually I don't, being that they mill around too much. Maybe after a glass of wine or two I'll traipse over to her territory...

Well, sorry to hear that, but your covers are so lovely, and I just had to check the one called Arachne, and then read the sample, and then buy it. Bought it. Happy sales!

Come on, people! I know you can whine better than that. Dredge up all that resentment. Throw in a dollop of victimization. Pretend you're a Brit and you've lost your colonies. Pretend you're an Arizona rancher and dirty Mexicans are tramping over your property all day. Bitch a little about the muse leaving you for another writer. I know you can do it!

SuzyQ! What am I gonna do with you? (There's an opener for you) And wasn't it that O'Leary dame's cow that kicked off the Great Chicago Fire?

My sales are so bad, I might have to get a real job. At Barnes & Noble. Now top that!

My name is just an accident of marriage. As to what you can do with me, I'll leave that to your imagination. (But don't tell me the result.)

My sales started at the bottom of the cliff - they never got to the top to fall off from in the first place Heck, I'm technically running at a loss here... Discounting being a hack, there are a few reasons I can guess are beside it. Covers: The initial ones were rather poor. I have upgraded some to a semi-decent level, but one of these days I'm going to hopefully be able to afford some professionally done ones. Short stories: I mostly write short fiction, which is harder to sell than novels. Of course I have written 2 novels as well, and they are doing just as poorly... Genre: I write fantasy, which is normally a decent seller. However for the most mine is off the beaten track - I don't write the generic stuff. Mostly it is fantasy at an 18th century level of tech (tall ships, gunpowder and muskets etc) - a distinct lack of sword and elves and knights and castles to be had. Promoting: I do basically no promoting, which is probably the biggest reason behind it all (Hey, people should be discovering me ) Sort of all piles up to produce the stagnation that has happened

My sales are good but they are only buying to be kind, I just know it. Then they post nasty reviews to make me sad.

You have an awesome cover, at least. I love it, very creative.

I feel like that guy in mythology who has to roll a stone up the hill. He finally makes it near the top, then the stone rolls back down to the bottom, and he has to start all over again.
