The Thorn Birds?  Oh, my, it must be 30 years since I've red the last one. It was definitely a must read then. I wonder how I would age it? May have to read that one again! Betsy |

The Thorn Birds is ALWAYS acceptable! I think I read it the first time when I was 15 and have read it every few years since then. It's a wonderful book.

Thorn Birds is one of the books I told my daughter was a "must read". She read it not long ago and really liked it once she got into it. And yep, I believe it was just about 30 years ago that I read it, or a bit more - I was pregnant with her at the time, I believe.

I remember reading this book while I was cooking dinner. I literally couldn't put it down. Well worth it!

The mini-series with Richard Chamberlain was a favorite of Mrs. r0b0d0c, so I downloaded this for her Kindle as soon as I saw this thread. Did Hollywood do the book justice? (Usually, I'm disappointed in the movie/mini-series after reading the book, as are most people)

It was a wonderful read and a "can't put down" one, at that! The mini-series is only a smidgen of what the book is.

Thanks for mentioning the Thornbirds. I enjoyed it 30 years ago and because of this thread, i am enjoying it again. maybe I'll finally watch the movie when I finish the book.

When I first read it back in my teens, I decided that if I ever had a son his name would be Dane...
When I found out I was having a boy, it was unfortunate that my ex-husband's name was Dean and it's far too similar.

It was one of my first Kindle purchases. Loved the book. Had the DTB back in the day and was sure to download it as soon as I got my Kindle...My favorite is the beginning of the book when Meggie was little and off to school for the first time.
A must read and SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE MOVIE (which I also own).

I giggled when I saw this. My mother read The Thorn Birds when she was pregnant with me, and my name is Meghann. She always told me that that is where she got my name. So, when I was a teenager, I wanted to read it so I could see where my name came from. I fell in love with it and read it almost every year now. |
