"Pre-ordering" Kindle books

I know for sure I'm going to be placing my order for a K2 within the next 2 weeks, as soon as my expense reimbursement check hits.

The question I have is, if there are some free Kindle books out there that are for a limited time only, if I can go ahead and order them while they're free before I order my K2, so I can get them while they're free?

From my understanding the price listed when you click your "Purchase with One-Click" is that price you get.

I think you can only pre-order the books once you have bought the kindle. I tried doing it in my sister's amazon account and it says that the book is only available for kindle devices.

As soon as you have a Kindle assigned to your account you can start ordering books.  So if you order NOW, within a few minutes you'll likely have a Kindle showing on your account. . .even though you don't physically have it.  This is true even if you order a DX that you won't get for maybe a couple of weeks.  Once Amazon has the Kindle attached to your account you'll be able to buy Kindle editions.

If you try to buy a Kindle edition and you don't have a Kindle, Amazon will kindly offer to sell you one.

If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, you can download the free Kindle app and register it at Amazon. Now you'll be able to buy as many books as you like.

I know it is exciting to get books as soon as possible. There will always be free books out there
