Hello again,

Firstly, many thanks to those of you who might have purchased Two-Way Split. I hope you have some fun with it. I'm back again to let you know that Kiss Her Goodbye, my second novel, is now also available on Kindle. It was originally published in 2005 as #8 in the multi-award-winning Hard Case Crime series. The following year it was nominated for an Edgar award, an Anthony award and a Gumshoe award.

Some praise for the book:

"Guthrie writes with an urgency, energy, cynical realism and mastery of casual violence that is rarely encountered in British crime writing" -- The Times of London

"A virtual classic that takes the genre to its pared-back, squealing limit. The writing is tight, the story as poised and precisely plotted as the finest of Ed McBain's procedural gems. Guthrie's control of this dark material is sheer wizardry." -- The Scotsman

"lives up to Hard Case's reputation for gritty noir thrillers that pull no punches" -- Publishers Weekly

"prose and scenes are lean and sharp, built for speed, built for excitement, with characters who immediately make an impact as forceful as a baseball bat through a car windscreen" -- Shots Magazine

Here's a brief description:

When people in Edinburgh want to borrow money, they go to Cooper. When they don't pay it back, they get a visit from Joe Hope. But now Joe's got problems of his own. His teenage daughter is found dead, an apparent suicide. Then the police arrest him for murder. But for once in his life, Joe's innocent -- and with help from Scotland's hardest men (and one of Scotland's hardest women), he sets out to find the person who framed him and deliver his own brutal brand of justice.

Again, thanks for your time and, as ever, happy reading.

I just finished Kiss Her Goodbye last night. I throughly enjoyed it. I did have one complaint...the formatting! There were spaces between every paragraph and there was no transition when we changed scenes. The story jumped without warning. The story was great though, and I really enjoyed it.

I'm stunned at the speed you guys read! I could use some tips ...

Thanks most kindly for buying the book(s) and for all the positive words. I'm looking into the formatting issues. I think I've fixed the accidental line breaks and will get it uploaded a.s.a.p. I should have known better -- the original UK trade paperback edition had the exact same problem. Apologies for not getting it right first time. I just hope it wasn't too intrusive.

Alan,

The cover for the Kindle editions of your books look great. In fact, I think I like the Kindle cover of KISS HER GOODBYE better than the retro-style of the Hard Case edition.

Lee: I think the covers are terrific. The designer is JT Lindroos, who designed my first ever cover (Two-Way Split for PointBlank). It's amazing what he rustled up from just the handful of ideas I threw at him. He's a huge talent and it's great to see his work appreciated. I passed along your appreciation.

Carol: Thanks for buying! You should have got the new version with the superior formatting -- it was uploaded last week. Hope the book keeps you entertained on your travels.
