Product Description
A preacher's son, a father in hiding, a guilty heart filled with secrets: When Jesse Barlow escaped to Hollywood, he hungered for fame--but eleven years of failure result in a drug-induced suicide attempt. Revived at death's doorstep, Jesse returns to his Ohio hometown to make amends with his preacher father, a former love, and Jesse's own secret son. But Jesse's renewed commitment becomes a baptism by fire when his son's advanced illness calls for a sacrifice--one that could cost Jesse the very life he regained. A story of mercy, hope, and second chances, From The Dead captures the human spirit with tragedy and joy.

If you can't get past the sleep picture then the only thing you can do is 'reboot' it. Slide the switch as though you're turning it on, but hold it in place - probably about 30 secs or so - until it restarts. If it doesn't work, leave it on recharge overnight and then try again. This page at Amazon will give you detailed instructions - it's the first problem on the list.

Contact Kindle Support.  They will ask you if you've charged it fully and if you've tried the restart by sliding the switch.  Mine failed in the same way a couple of months ago.  The light didn't go green when I tried to wake it from sleep.  It didn't go green when I held it for either a long time or a short time.  And it didn't go amber when I plugged it in to recharge.  I did 'call me back', explained all that to them, and I had a new Kindle the next afternoon.

Mine did this a few weeks ago. Toggle the on/off button on the top a few times - turn it to the right and hold it there fore about a minute, release, and do it again a couple of times. This worked for me (make sure it's charged first).
