Greetings, Gentle Kindlers!

Since my short fiction has a very different flavor from that of my novels, I'm starting this thread as a new booth at the Bazaar. Regenerated is the first short story I've put on Kindle, and there'll be more to come soon. Beyond the sanctioned weekly bump for the present yarn, I'll let it be known if and when I've added a new entry to the list (a half-dozen are in the queue).

Regenerated is currently on sale for $0.80, down from a dollar.

Cela always hoped she'd find Jorgen again...but was this really Jorgen?

"No one ever really got to know a rashak, and Cela had never made an attempt. She patched them up and they paid her if they had money, giving exactly what her services were worth, neither more nor less. However much agony they might be in, they never showed it. Their flat wide-mouthed saurian faces remained stonily impassive even when the pain ebbed, and their gratitude was equally effusive."

Regenerated was originally published in Quantum Muse, and reader response was very gratifying; I hope the same will be true of Kindle. Smiley Like all my stories, it considers what it truly means to be human, and is meant for a general audience.

Happy reading,

CK

I read it and liked the writing style, but I was a bit disappointed by the ending.  It didn't feel like a story ending, more like this was the first chapter in what should be a longer work.

Carolyn,
I am glad that you started a separate thread.

This story is VERY much different from your first two books.

I hope that you will write more in both areas.

I look forward to more from you.

Just sayin......

I think it's important for a short story to leave matters to some degree unsolved at the end, making the reader wonder 'and then what happened?' Perhaps because 'Regenerated' has the flavor of a fable, it seems suited for a more definite ending on the order of a 'happily ever after'; my protagonist Cela had certainly hoped for that, and perhaps one is still possible.

Maybe.

Thank you for reading me! I'm delighted you enjoyed the writing style.

Coming right up, Geoff! Smiley I was going to send my latest completed story off to the ezines for consideration, but Kindle seems a better way to go. Here, I know I have a readership. Cheesy

Your kind words always inspire. Many, many thanks.

I agree with you Carolyn.  You can't try to tell everything in a short story, there's just not time.  Well, sometimes, at least. Wink

This story was a delight.
It tantalized.
And made you use your imagination.
Which is something that a short story can actually do better than a novel.
Because the purpose is to just paint the background and explain the thread.
But the details do not have to be pulled together.
That can be left for the reader.

And that is nicely done here.

Those words are sheer motivation, Geoff. Thanks! Smiley  If further inducement will help:

Until the end of August, anyone who's purchased either/both of my books, or is thinking of doing so, is invited to e-mail me at carolyn.kephart@gmail.com for a complimentary pdf of Regenerated. It's also currently free at Smashwords for a limited time.

Good news: I just found out today that Silver Blade will be publishing my short story Last Laughter this month. It's about an evil court jester who gets the perfect comeuppance. Cheesy  I'll Kindle it when I can.

Also good news from a buyer's standpoint: paper versions of Wysard (some folks still like the smell and feel of tree!) can be had for silly cheap just now, gently pre-owned, by following my sig link.

Lots more tales to come,

Namaste,

CK
