1.  My 11 year old reads more and better books if he can use the Kindle, and he actually falls asleep easier at night instead of being restless at bedtime; and

2.  My teenager reads extensively in one genre; almost nothing in any other.  When the Kindle is laying around, he'll pick it up and read something new, almost every day, extending his scope and enjoyment of books.

My kids get my K1, too, and now read much more than before (and they read a lot before, too!). I just wanted to recommend some freebies for your boys, in case they haven't tried them yet:

Excellent!  Thank you so much, BookishMom!

He has just finished The River, Farmer Boy, and The Call of the Wild.  I already have The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe on K1 for him, as I read it Smiley  I so wish my favorite series of "boy" books was on Kindle, by Ralph Moody, the first one is Little Britches.  My older boys loved that series in paperback.

I read Magic Kingdom for Sale Sold and loved it, although I've never thought I was a Fantasy fan.  My older son reads nothing but fantasy, he read all of Tolkien in the first grade and has never wavered in his love for that genre.  He's the one I'm trying to broaden.  If I take him to a book store, he picks up half a dozen new fantasy books.  Right now he is reading a memoir of a crack addict (Nic Sheff); it's quite brutal and definitely NOT for children, but he's a young adult and I think it is good for him in a "scared straight" kind of way.

Thanks again for your recs, very much appreciated ~

Maybe I missed it, but the only references I've seen to people have multiple Kindles of the same model have been couples and families so they are really for separate individuals.

Is there really anyone who has talked of owning multiple K2s just for themselves?

Yes Ive seen people with multiple k2's and multiple dx's also. Not shared within a family just one person owning multiples.  I think if thats what you want and you can afford it then by all means GO for it!  I just didn't know how they decided on which one to use.
