I got through Part 6 pretty fast.  It's amazing how much I can read when I'm holding my breath.  Pretty heart pounding stuff even though I read the book already.

Here's the discussion for Part 6

Part 6 - The War of the Regulation
Chapters 56-72

1.  What a surprise; Jamie just turned 50.  Do you take stock of yourself or the past year on your birthday?

2.  Were you surprised when Jamie sent Roger to find Harmon Husband?

3.  Why do you think he picked Roger?  Son of the House?  Had confidence in him?  As a test?

4.  Were you worried about Roger’s safety?

5.  If Roger hadn’t kissed Morag McKenzie, do you think her husband would have reacted the way he did?

6.  Do you think Buck broke his word to his wife not to harm Roger or see him killed?  How do you think he justified his actions?  How do you think she will react?

7.  How did you feel when they were hanging Roger?  Did you think he would die?

8.  Claire isn’t sure Roger will live considering the severity of his injuries.  Do you think Bree and Roger’s story is at an end?

9.  What did you think of Bree grabbing Roger and yelling at him ... “How in God’s name did you do this?”

10.  What do you think of the reappearance of Morton?

11.  The Battle of Alamance was the end of the Wars of the Regulation.  Do you think Jamie and Claire will be able to live in peace for a time?

12.  What do you think Gov. Tryon said to Jamie about Roger and rectifying the “mistake?”

1.  What a surprise; Jamie just turned 50.  Do you take stock of yourself or the past year on your birthday?
It was interesting that he thought of his father who didn’t live past fifty.  I think many people don’t expect to live longer than their parents.  I don’t look forward or backward on my birthdays, after all you’re really only one day older than the day before.  I do feel some trepidation on New Years Eve though; sort of wondering what the new year will bring.

2.  Were you surprised when Jamie sent Roger to find Harmon Husband?
Yes, but I was more surprised that he sent him out alone into Regulator’s territory.

3.  Why do you think he picked Roger?  Son of the House?  Had confidence in him?  As a test?
I’m pretty sure it was to test him.  I don’t think he has a whole lot of confidence in him.

4.  Were you worried about Roger’s safety?
Of course, he’s not a trained soldier and is vision is impaired.  I guess nobody was 4F in those days.

5.  If Roger hadn’t kissed Morag McKenzie, do you think her husband would have reacted the way he did?
Probably not.  Buck couldn’t know that Roger was feeling a connection because they will be his ancestors.

6.  Do you think Buck broke his word to his wife not to harm Roger or see him killed?  How do you think he justified his actions?  How do you think she will react?
I would say so.  He may not have originally intended for Roger to die, he was using him to escape imprisonment.  When they were looking for a third man to hang, he could have kept his mouth shut, but I guess he figured with Roger out of the way, he would not be discovered.

7.  How did you feel when they were hanging Roger?  Did you think he would die?
I couldn’t believe it was really happening.  I expected Jamie to get there in time to cut him down.

8.  Claire isn’t sure Roger will live considering the severity of his injuries.  Do you think Bree and Roger’s story is at an end?
Roger can’t die!  DG wouldn’t do that.

9.  What did you think of Bree grabbing Roger and yelling at him ... “How in God’s name did you do this?”
Hysterical people say and do irrational things.

10.  What do you think of the reappearance of Morton?
I can’t believe the Browns got him after all.  How evil; they tried to kill their daughter’s husband.

11.  The Battle of Alamance was the end of the Wars of the Regulation.  Do you think Jamie and Claire will be able to live in peace for a time?
That would be lovely, but not likely.  What would DG write about then.  I don’t know history well enough to know what occurs between the War of the Regulators and the Revolutionary War, so I can’t say.

12.  What do you think Gov. Tryon said to Jamie about Roger and rectifying the “mistake?”
I can’t imagine how he thought he could rectify that mistake.  He thought Roger was dead.  How do you rectify that!!
