Go to the top of any page here at KB and there is a link that will take you to Amazon.

I think they meant is there a physical store where someone could go to to buy the Kindle; so far I think, the answer is no.

No, there are no retail outlets for the Kindle... Your best bet for getting a Kindle other than purchasing online is to see if you can get one second-hand via Craigslist or some other venue.
However, there are plenty of places that sell other e-book readers, particularly Sony... They have displays in Border's and Target, and plenty of other places I suspect.

Maybe someone on the KB might live near him and wants to sell their old outdated kindle (is there any such a thing? ) so he can see and hold it first. sroecker0 where are you located?

Sorry, misunderstood. At least if someone is close, maybe it would be possible for a show-n-tell session.

There's probably someone in your area willing to show you theirs, but as for purchasing, I think you'll need to stick with buying directly from Amazon online.
