Hi all you Jade Owl Legacy Readers. I'll be open for discussion starting Tuesday September 1 with a Read with the Author Book Klub. If you are new to the series, you are welcome to start in The Jade Owl Book Klub as it will remain open, and I will continue to field questions and add discussion items for both those who have read the first book, and those who are new to it. In the meantime, check in and sign up for "notification."

Welcome to The Third Peregrination, the second book of the Jade Owl Legacy series - and the second of the Read with the Author Kub

If you have not read The Jade Owl, you should head to the 1st Book Klub. Although these books can conceivably be read apart, the characters and events in Book One are essential to Book Two.

Like the first Book Klub, I will answer any question and engage in discussion with any reader, and everyone can keep your own pace. The second book is longer, more involved, faster paced and deeper in many ways that the first book. Unlike Book One, where we have one principle relic and some other hoodoo stuff like Yellow feathers,Audrey's P'i-p'a, the diary, the Joy of Finches and the leather shield, in The Third Peregrination we have many more relics (pieces) of the puzzle - as ye gather the rosebuds as ye may - so to speak. So in Part I we are introduce to more relics and a new character as we descend into the basement and take a look around:

A Hall of Quiet Relics

Discussion Questions:

Does the basement and the Hall of Quiet Relics remind you of anything from the first book?

What's your impression of the NEW character in the white coat?

The opal ring draws together which other relics in the Conservancy?

Did y'all know about the originals of the Swastika?

Did you have a piece of cake at the party?

At this early stage of introduction, what do you think the seven sisters significance could be?

How do you think the Jade Owl disappeared to where it went (no spoiler given)?

This first Part has a great deal of exposition, so I expect you will have many questions at this point. I'm here and waiting.

K1 set up with tTP (hmm, an unfortunate acronym, perhaps Smiley) ready to go.  Soon as I can hobble my way downstairs and get planted on the sofa I'll get at it!  Cheesy

Good Morning, Ann

Just got to my seat at work. I start at an unGodly hour (The alarms goes off at 5. Reminds me of the army). But after some coffee and a Jimmy Dean Sausage samitch (that's Brooklynese for sandwich), I'll be in fine order.

Finished the first 6 chapters. . . . .gonna try to stick with the reading schedule this time. Cheesy

So. . . . 7 Chinese paintings . . . . .probably a sort of map that tells them where to find something else. . .or what to do with one (or more) of the things they've already got. . . . .

I have a feeling Sydney is going to end up being pretty deep. . . .already he's been very useful. . .

I did NOT know about the swastika. . .at least, I knew it was older than the Nazi's but if I'd ever learned the actual origin I'd forgotten.

Looking forward to what happens next.  Thinking Rowdy will NOT want Audrey to go traipsing about while with child.  Thinking Audrey will not let him go without her. Cheesy  And of course Simon/e will have to go along to take care of Nick -- though he will NOT like it.  Sydney will go along. . . . .Not clear at this point who else might need to be in the party.

Oh, and I've decided I like having the questions first as it gives me things to think about as I read. . . .another reason I'm going to try to stick to the schedule!

Ann:

Sort of a map - yes, but you know I'm more devious than that. (no hints from those who have read The Academician - that means you Susanif Va  Grin ).

And Sydney is DEEP, but tthis is the deepest book I've ever written, so he's really deep. Surpises, surprises.

Yes, the swaika is an ancient subcontinental symbol, and since Hitler misintereted in as Aryan in origin, he adopted it - only he reversed it. Leave it to Simone to ID it at once, she he's from "a different tribe altoether" as he told Wewoka in Book I - that would be a lost tribe.

The dynamics of who goes and who stays is dependant on things to come, You are correct on Audrey and Simone, in that they do not want their men to go traipsing off if it comes to that. And you a correct that Nick, Rowdy and Syndey form 3 that go froth. We'll leave it at that for now . . .

Well, we're just beginning aren't we.  Grin
