1.  Bobby sees a dark, terrible, woman-like form as he’s coming out of the ether.  Do you think he saw someone in particular?

6.  What did you think of Tom Christie whipping Malva?

1.  Bobby sees a dark, terrible, woman-like form as he’s coming out of the ether.  Do you think he saw someone in particular?
Claire knew he was lying when he said he didn’t recognize her, so it must have been someone he knew.

2.  Do you think there is any significance to Jamie remembering a scene from Culloden while he is with the Indians?  Do you think this means he might remember more?
I don’t know, possibly his knowledge of what will happen to most of the Indians triggered some memories.  He may have more recall.

3.  Were you surprised at Manfred McGillivray breaking his betrothal to Lizzie and the reasons for it?
Sure was.  Although it was pretty obvious they were not in love, I never expected that he would have an affair with a whore and contract syphilis to boot.

4.  Ian helps Claire tend Lizzie.  Do you think he is developing feelings for her?
He does care for her, but I don’t know if he loves her.  Then again he was willing to marry Bree and he married a Mohawk woman and learned to love her.  I always felt that Lizzie always had feelings for him.

5.  Why do you think Ute and Robin turned against Lizzie?
They were devastated and angry about Manfred.  They had to blame someone, so they turned their anger against her.

6.  What did you think of Tom Christie whipping Malva?
I didn’t know what to think.  Apparently whipping a woman in those times was acceptable.  I didn’t think Tom would approve of her walking alone with Jamie though.

7.  Do you think Roger is having an affair with Amy McCallum?  Is he looking to her for the respect he doesn’t get from Bree?  Is he attracted to Amy because she needs him as Bree does not?
No way.  He’s very altruistic.  He sees that Amy needs help and it’s satisfying to be able to do it.  Bree is so self-sufficient that he doesn’t feel needed, not to say that he doesn’t love her.  Doing for Amy probably does make him feel more like a man.

8.  Why do you think Malva made such vicious threats against Roger when he caught her kissing Bobby Higgins?
She got caught doing something that could get her in big trouble.  Having heard the rumors about Roger and Amy, she decided to use them to protect herself.  Not too nice.

9.  What do you think will be the consequences of Malva helping Claire with the ether during Aidan’s surgery?
Surely Tom will realize that Claire, with Malva’s help saved Aidan’s life.  I’m hoping he’ll agree to allow Malva to continue as Claire’s apprentice, unless he thinks there's something unholy about bringing someone back from the dead.

10.  What do you think precipitated Roger’s decision to become a minister?
He probably realized that he was called to fill a need. He was better suited to this calling than being a soldier or farmer, and it gave him satisfaction.

11.  Do you think Bree is happy about Roger’s decision?  What does her reaction say about their relationship?
I think she sees how much it means to him and she's happy to see him so happy.  He finally found his niche.  It says a lot about how much she has come to love him, in that she can accept his way of being a man.

Malva was bending over him at the time.

I think Ian looks on Lizzie as a little sister.  As for Bree, he was told by Jamie to ask her.  I think there might have been some physical attraction there.  Ian seems to be quite the ladies' man and as Jamie has said ... It's better to marry than burn.   Cheesy

I think one of the reasons Ian agreed to stay behind with the Mohawk was his love for Emily.

I agree.  At first, they blamed Claire, but Lizzie was an easier target.  Besides, her presence would be a reminder of their lost son.

Christie is a very hard man.  I have to wonder, though, what Malva had done to deserve the whipping.

No, not to nice at all.  I think her name is rather significant ... mal = bad.

Oh Gertie, I should have seen this! I certainly had a sense of it after the scene with Roger catching her with Bobby. Claire needs to keep her out of her surgery! I'm almost through Section 8. I guess more to come on this.

I was alwasy uneasy about Malva's eagerness to help Claire. I don't know why, gut feeling. And then this nastiness to Roger. *shakes head* I'm pretty far ahead of this section now, so I won't say more.
