Grief is the price we pay for love.....

I don't know the terminology to use in asking my question - therefore I can't use the search, so please forgive me since I'm sure this has been mentioned/discussed before.

I'm a new Kindle user and have only had my KDX for 2 weeks.  BTW, I'm loving it and I was a hard sell, believe me...Anyway, when I use the sleep mode or am interrupted and let it turn off by itself, after waking the Kindle up, I still see faint images of either the text I was reading or the screen saver.  Is this normal or should I be asking for a replacement?  Was this a problem with the K2 also?

Thanks for your patience and I do appreciate your help with this newbie.

You will have a little bit of screen ghosting, that is normal. I think it is more noticeable on the DX due to its size. Just change the page a few times and you should be fine.

Welcome. It is normal and usually goes away once you turn the page. You don't have to worry that it is burning on your screen like a computer. The first time I noticed it I was worried as well. If after you refresh your screen it is still there then I would call CS.

If it bugs you like it does me, a simple ALT-G clears it up.  Page turns clear the middle of the screen on the K2 at least, but the top bars still ghost and I am really picky so I always do that little extra step.  This only happens when waking it up while in the middle of a book.  It's become second nature to me now.  Once you do that ALT-G you really shouldn't notice it as you continue to read.  Interestingly when you wake it up while at your Home Page the screen will do a double or even a triple refresh and all the ghosting will be gone without the ALT-G.

You might also notice a little ghosting at the bottom of the screen while reading a book after using the dictionary feature. When going to the next page, the shading at the bottome of the page is irregular in the shape of the lower part of the phrase "Begin typing to create a note or click to start a highlight". Something similar might happen after looking up something on Google or Wikipedia and then going Back to the book. Sometimes I use ALT-G but usually I don't.

This bugged the daylights out of me when I got my K2. I remember the old monitors and terminals from 25-30 years ago. They burned in very badly, and it was permanent. After a day or two, I realized that the Kindle "burn in" was only transient.
