Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

1.  Do you think Ian gave up his religion when he was with the Mohawk and followed their beliefs? If so, do you think he still does?
He knows the Mohawk’s beliefs and respects them, but having been raised a Catholic and coming from a people who are not so primitive, I would think he still believes in the faith of his youth.  He probably didn’t care for being questioned about it.

2.  What do you think of Bobby Higgins wanting to court two different women?
He may like both of them, but he’s not in love with either.  It does seem that love was not a prerequisite in those times.

3.  Do you think Roger will successful in matching Tom Christie and Amy McCallum?
Sounds like a good idea.  Now if they can marry Malva to Bobby, everyone might be happy.

4.  Can you understand why Mr. Wemyss rejected Bobby’s suit even though he has a good job and future prospects with Lord John?
Bobby is a marked as a murderer.  Mr. Wemyss can’t get past that regardless of the circumstances.

5.  Do you think Claire would have let herself die if she hadn’t seen Jamie?
She was dying.  When she saw Jamie with another woman she started to fight for her life.  No way was she going to let someone else have him.

6.  Why do you think Claire was so upset at losing her hair?
For the same reason any woman would be upset.  She also knew how much Jamie loved it.

7.  Do you think Jamie and Roger Mac put enough fear into the boys that tried to drown Henri-Christian to keep it from happening again?  Do you think the boys’ parents will get the message?
I think Roger’s speech of fire and brimstone got to them alright.  Whatever the parents are feeling about Henri-Christian, Jamie’s declaration that he was his, should settle the matter with them also.

8.  Were you surprised that Fergus tried to kill himself?
Poor Fergus!  Too bad the print shop in Cross Creek didn’t work out.  He really need to gain some self-esteem.  It had to be a lot harder for someone with a disability to function in those times.

9.  What did you think of Jamie declaring his commitment to Liberty and neither side believing him?  Now what will he do?
He certainly is in a dilemma.  He’s got friends among the loyalists and enemies among the freedom fighters.  Should be interesting to see how he will manage this.

10.  When you read about Claire sneaking out of the house, did you think of Jamie leaving the Abbey in the dead of winter when he was still very weak.
I didn’t remember it until she brought it up.  I guess it was kind of the same thing.

11.  Do you think Tom Christie is beginning to accept Claire?
Seems as though he’s gained some respect for her.

12.  What do you think of Hiram Crombie preaching to the Indians?
Looks like he’s got his work cut out for him.

13.  Jamie has resigned his position as Indian Agent making it clear
that he can no longer work for the Crown.  Do you think this will help convince the Correspondence Committees accept him as one of them?

Maybe, or they may think he’s a spy for the Crown.
