I really would like to link my stuff when I post about it. But a lot of the times the link maker doesn't find items even though I know they exist. What am I doing wrong here?

I've been using the old LinkMaker and it's working pretty well - it's just a little more complicated. I haven't had much luck with the new one lately. I seem to recall Harvey mentioning that Amazon changed the way they do things in the database that LinkMaker 2 uses and that's why it's so unpredictable.

Amazon has changed what it makes available via database queries like the ones our Link Maker does. In particular, Kindle Store books are for the most part not being made available. We don't know if this is a glitch from Amazon, or an intentional decision. It is affecting many sites that do database queries to retrieve Amazon items. There's more about it here: http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,405.msg243530.html#msg243530I believe it is intentional because if you log into your amazon account and go to a Kindle book page and click on the "Link to this page" in the grey bar at the top, you get a notice that you cannot link to that page. So it seems Amazon is no longer allowing referral links to Kindle books. Rachel |

As a reminder: you can access v 1.0 of the LinkMaker via the regular Link-Maker links. It's in the text at the top there, highlighted. Here's a link with a video tutorial that Verena made last November on how to use the Link Maker 1.0. . . .it hasn't changed since she did this and might be helpful to folks who haven't used it before. I'll add that it's much easier to use Firefox to make image links than Internet Explorer; some people have made the switch to Firefox for this reason. Betsy I never tried with IE. . .but it's definitely not hard with Firefox since you can have various tabs open for the copying and pasting. . . . . .and while it may seem a little complicated at first, if you do it a few times it begins to make sense and becomes second nature. I found the tutorial REALLY helpful initially. . .so thanks to Verena for that. . . . . |

In IE, at least - If you remember to copy the entire path to the image link, it works much better! I have a habit of starting to highlight text from the bottom and that doesn't cut it in this case.
After you do it a few times, it gets much easier.
