Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

In the home stretch now...

End Game: Chapter 28

Lots of craziness going on! Comment on whatever you like (as always!). A few major points:

  -- The big fleet battle

-- Sato's confrontation with some of the warriors who board McClaren

-- The rescue of McClaren's crew

-- How Li'ara-Zhurah treated Coyle at the end

Onward to the End >>>

  -- The big fleet battle
It was interesting that the Kreelans fought with just the weapons allowed.  And still could have wiped the human fleet out.

-- Sato's confrontation with some of the warriors who board McClaren
Sato did the right thing by sending his crew to leave.  But the Kreelans recognized him and would not hurt him.  Hmmmm.

-- The rescue of McClaren's crew
It was pretty neat.  That Mills and Steph had the boat go and take the survivors off the McClaren.  Better still that they got Sato off.

-- How Li'ara-Zhurah treated Coyle at the end
It was interesting how Li'ara-Zhurah had handed Coyle a sword to fight with.  Then after Coyle was killed and she was wounded, she gave Coyle an honored warrior's funeral.  Treated her with respect.  Because it was all about the fighting for the glory of the Empress.

Exhausting.  Sad that LeFevre (a gallant man and great admiral) and the Jean Bart went down.  Tiernan survived to rescue the last assault boat with Ichiro and Steph.

-- Sato's confrontation with some of the warriors who board McClaren

Does he realize he actually won that confrontation by NOT killing them?

Quote
-- The rescue of McClaren's crew

Funny, I thought Ichiro would survive all along, but I was never sure about Steph.

Quote
-- How Li'ara-Zhurah treated Coyle at the end

She treated Coyle as a worthy adversary.

D'oh! I think I actually commented on some of this in the post on the thread for the previous section. I can never keep these things straight. Bad fingers! Grin
