I had my first sighting last week. We were in Florida and the first morning I went out on the balcony to look at the ocean and a man at the pool was reading a Kindle 1. I was thrilled. By the time my daughter-in-law and myself got down there with our Kindle 2's we had several people asking us all what they were. Of course we were more than happy to talk about our babies BTW - the gentleman was from Australia which made it all the more awesome to have something in common.

I was talking with a man from Germany and he stated that he had seen two on his flight over a couple months ago. He didn't know the name of it, but said they looked like mine. Technically could have been Sony's I guess. deb

KITW ~ dream sequence
Beginning with a government-sponsored tour which ranging from Turkey to Vietnam, I've traveled all over the world since I was 18 years old. Those memories are often the things dreams are made of. The nightmare version frequently involves being dressed inappropriately, with missing tickets or passport/visa, and being lost far, far from the airport as departure time approach-eth.
This morning's version was of the pleasant sort. As with many of my dreams, I don't remember a lot of the details, except it was set in the combined locations of Penang and Buenos Aires, and shopping in crowded markets was involved. At one point in the dream our wanderings took us down a street of beautiful old homes where the residents were selling stuff on the sidewalk from little card tables. One of the folks exclaimed, "Hey, that's a Kindle!" Oddly, it was a K1 -- and I've never actually seen one. I awakened as we were beginning a discussion of relative battery life.
Not really a KITW, but it is a version thereof.

I went to the gym a while back and saw a lady sitting there reading on a kindle(A white one) and so we started talking. the funny thing is that she also had a fire and she was also in my spin class. 1 other lady in spin has one. we seem to have something in common other than spin class.
I am the one usually out some where having people walk up to me asking me if I am reading on a kindle. I was at the bowling center the other night waiting for league to start and there were a couple ladies there and they walked half way across the center to ask me if I was reading on a kindle. I said yes.... and we started talking. It was funny because they both said that they use them at home but are afraid to take them out of the house. I looked at them and said these (my KK3 and Fire) go with me everywhere I go. I also showed them the bag I bought to carry them in and the cases I have for them both. I also showed them the light on the lighted case. they said they had never seen one and the one lady uses a flashlight taped to the headboard and the othe lady uses a clamplight. they don't even have cases for them. thought it was stupid to get them because the cost of them. I told them that it was the next most important thing to get after getting a kindle. I also told them about this website and the discussion forum on amazon. they had seen the amazon discussion button but never thought they needed to go there. It was nice to sit and chat with people about something I knew a lot about...

On Thursday (three posts up) I saw my very first Kindle in the wild. Today I saw my second in the cafeteria at the local hospital.

I see them semi often when traveling.
Seems like I see them less often that a year or two ago though. With the tablet crazy I see a lot more iPads and other tablets on planes that I do Kindle's, Nooks and Sony Reader's lately.
Heck, I'm guilty of it myself as I haven't traveled with my Kindle much since getting an iPad 2 last spring. I don't mind reading on it, and need e-mail, internet etc. so I tend to just take it and leave the Kindle at home. Unless I have to do full on work on the trip, then I'll take my laptop and Kindle and leave the iPad behind.

I see people use them on the train every now and then, and I know two of my coworkers have them as well. First sighting aside from my own was definitely on the train though

I am a health care provider and am now seeing them quite regularly. Often they are being read when I walk into an exam room. Most have generic covers and no skins. It does make it easy to begin to make conversation (other than "what brings you to see me today?"). I often will show them the skin and cover I have on my K2 (since I always have my K2 and Fire with me). I have given and gotten many book recommendations as well.

I see people reading Kindles all the time to be honest.
I actually see more people using Kindles than Ipads which surprises me considering the hype that the Ipad rides on.

It's bad that when I read the topic title, I thought "Pokemon."
I never really paid much attention to people with ereaders. But, after getting a Kindle, I see them everywhere. It's kinda like when you're driving a new car. You see the car you drive EVERYWHERE (unless it's some exotic type, and such). I've seen more Kindles and Nooks than I have iPads, honestly. And, given the popularity of the Apple thing, it's surprising.
