Kindle and public libraries

When will it be possible to borrow books from a public library on my Kindle, or can I do it now?

Welcome to Kindle Boards!

Due to the format that the Kindle uses, I don't believe there are any libraries that offer e-books in a compatible format. It's always possible that Amazon could update the firmware to allow other formats, but I don't see that as likely, since that would also allow Kindle users to buy books from other retailers.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but look on the bright side, there are thousands of free books available through Amazon and from various other sites. I'd suggest you check out www.feedbooks.com where you can download books to your computer and transfer to your Kindle with the USB cable, or you can visit that address directly on your Kindle and download books directly as well, no computer required.

I cant seem to ever get the brower to be user friendly at all. Igo to the site and when I get to the url, it doesnt take me any where, I tried this with manybooks yesterday,, I would click a link and it would keep taking me to some page I didnt want.. Is there a trick I am missing. I  have tried before and just get very frustrated.. please help,, thanks

Hi Frank, and welcome to KindleBoards!

Yes, you can read library ebooks on your Kindle, but not without a little work. Books in MobiPocket format are easier to work with, but you can also read Adobe files.

I prefer manybooks.net, but the url you use should be mnybks.net.  This may help.

Frankly, if you are going to do much browing on the site, it's easier to do that from the computer, and then, connecting the Kindle via USB, to download through the computer to the Kindle.  All of these sites are slow on the kindle itself, which is why I find browsing more efficient on the computer.  (The same is true on the Amazon web site.)
