Thus the KindleBoards axiom; the answer to every question is either Hugh or Hibbing. Betsy

Whatever B&N releases, I hope it is a big success. That's speaking as a Kindle owner (admittedly a brand-new one!). We aren't going to see significant increases in technology, and probably not big price drops from Amazon unless Amazon feels they have competition that forces them to take risks and cut our costs. We as Kindle owners will benefit if B&N has a successful product, so I hope they do.
Also, since some publishers seem to be making deals with different e-book providers, getting a second reader of a different brand seems like a good possibility to me!
As for colors, a e-book sized like a K2 that had good and true color would find a significant (admittedly niche) market among nature enthusiasts for field guides! I'd buy one in a heartbeat! Comic book fans would be another clear audience, though they'd want a bigger screen, DX-sized.

The skepticism was from people who have followed Plastic Logic and also E-Ink technology and knew it was just not possible they were coming out with a color e-ink (PL's using the e-ink technology) in the Spring. That sales guy was just saying things he didn't really understand. Plastic Logic refers to him as yesterday as someone who was "attending" the show but I think he was an at least temp employee who just mis-heard things and wanted to sound "in the know" when the gal came up to interview him. I have a report on that today because most of the gadget mags online did believe him. So he has the makings of a real salesman :-) http://bit.ly/nocolbn

Today on Engadget: Plastic Logic deflates dreams, denies Spring 2010 release for color e-readerWe had a sneaking suspicion that it was too good to be true, and now Plastic Logic has stepped forward to officially kill our pipe dreams. Just days ago, the web was set ablaze when a Barnes & Noble representative mistakenly (or deliberately, for all we know) stated that a Plastic Logic-sourced color e-reader was on track for a Spring 2010 release. Today, the aforesaid outfit has stated that the video report was "inaccurate and the individual (who was apparently filmed while attending a trade show was not an authorized Barnes & Noble spokesperson) was misinformed." Continuing on, we're told that while "color is on Plastic Logic's roadmap, it is not on the map for the Spring of 2010." Welp, that settles that... unfortunately.

Reading Kindle books on my iPod Touch allows color covers etc. I think Apple may come out with a color e-ink reader before Amazon.

I don't think so legalbs2, mainly because that would limit it's functionality to reading... just what we want, but the antithesis of what Steve Jobs prefers.

I have to disagree that adding color to a Kindle would "limit its functionally to reading". Color maps and Covers would enhance your reading experience.

Oh no, that's not what I mean legal, sorry... I was saying I don't think Apple will come out with a color e-ink reader because the e-ink would limit it to reading. =)

I highly doubt that since there is a single supplier of e-ink screens, so they would be available to both companies at the same time. I haven't seen any indication that Apple intends to use e-ink at all, or that its followers are interested in it, although anything is certainly possible.
