Why isn't your baby dressed properly for bathing?

Definitely a good thing to do. And if you're going to be reading in the bathtub, at the very least use a ziplock bag or one of the waterproof kindle bags. Check our sponsors or the accessories threads for more information.

I vote for ziploc bags, both for future bathroom reading, and especially to dry your baby out now--I highly recommend the rice trick, only with both dry rice and Kindle sealed in a plastic bag for at least a day. Wouldn't hurt to change out the rice at least once during that time.

Will the zip-loc bag work while showering? The rice trick does work on electronic stuff. Did it on a brand new (wet) cell phone.

It's good to know about that rice trick, though I'm too afraid to read my K in the tub, even with a ziploc.

No need for sophisticated accessories. Call me a cheap bastard but I would just put it inside a ziploc baggy.

I always loved reading in the tub - but now I'm the same way. I'm so afraid to even try it in a ziploc bag. I've dropped way too many paperbacks in the water, so I have a history of clumsiness.

You're right of course, "CB" a ziplock bag is a good solution, and a lot of our members use them. But one either has to keep replacing the ziplock bag or testing it. (Trust me, I've used them for icing my knee and they don't last forever.) And ziplock seals can fool you. If you think you're going to be near or in water a lot with your Kindle, a heavier gauge plastic with a clamping seal is not a huge investment if it keeps your Kindle safe. One of our members fell in a pool with her Kindle. If you're rarely in a wet situation, go with the ziplock. If reading at the pool or tub is your thing, think about a sturdier solution. Just sayin.... Betsy

Well, she wasn't as perfect as I thought last night. Maybe that was a fluke. When I went to turn her on this AM, it wouldn't turn on from the screen saver. So I took the advice about the roblrice. Threw about 3 cups of rice in the bag with my baby. For about 8 hours today, all it would do is res jet itself and go to the last page of whatever book I chose. It would not advance, go back, or turn off the wireless. Finally, just recently I checked it again and all seems to be working well. I'm going to keep it in the bag with the rice tonight just to make sure BTW, I do use my baby in the tub and have never had a problem before. As a matter of fact, last night Ias just setting it on the side of the tub before I ever got in. It slipped from my hand becasue I had a catalogue inside the cover. The pages slid and next thing I knew, everything was in the tub.

Things can happen very quickly. I'm sure the member who fell into the pool with her Kindle never thought that would happen! (Or maybe she did, and that's why she had it in the waterproof case, LOL!)
Keep us posted!

I hope your Kindle is o.k. . . . . . .but if you use it near water you are taking a risk. . . . .I'm with the others who say if you do this with any regularity you ought to look into one of the waterproof bags. . . . . .
Me: my Kindle isn't allowed in the bathroom, nor on the kitchen counter, and when I read with it in our friends' backyard this summer I stayed far away from the pool. . .

Once is all it takes. Hope everything dries out and still works. The Kwik Tek dry packs are about $10 each and well worth it.

Once is all it takes. Hope everything dries out and still works. The Kwik Tek dry packs are about $10 each and well worth it. This is what I use, and I love it. Even rolled it up & took it with me on my last trip, since all three hotels had marvelous bathtubs. LOL I'll confess, I do take my iPhone in to the bath nekkid so I can play Sudoku. It has a special back cover that allows me to keep a very solid grip on it, and it's a first gen version that's already got enough problems to warrant replacement (which is already budgeted). So if I kill it, I'd be upset, but it's really no big deal. But my Kindle? No way. It just doesn't come anywhere near water without adequate protection, and like Betsy, I got tired of having to test Ziplocs every time.

I love taking a bath with Bob (my Kindle) and I would never go near a tub with him unless he was in my Kwik Tek. It was a great, cheap investment for huge piece of mind. I hope your kindle continues to be OK!

Another option is this one from Trendy Digital. (I'm thinking of buying one for my mom who switches back to pbooks for tub reading)

Both waterproof cases are very good. You can't change books but next page and prev page work very well and the Kindle is very readable through the plastic.

Just a note-if you get your Kindle (or any electronic wet) don't turn it on! Water+electrical currents= fried device. If it has a removable battery, take it out as quickly as you can. Then let everything dry in rice.
