Just saw this, I've been at the doctor's and working out. Nice! This shape is generally considered pretty back friendly...

This is the LL Bean version of the Ameribag that I absolutely love and have written about often. These bags are designed to stay on your shoulder... which they do better than any bag I've ever used. With the design tapering up toward the top, they just don't seem bulky or bothersome. And, they work great for taking along my KK in the Oberon cover, my wallet, cell phone and a very small cosmetic bag for "necessities". The sale price is definitely reasonable. Thanks for letting us know!!

Missed it, but just as well. I have used healthy back bags and liked them.

Oh well, sorry some of you who may have been interested missed it. I like them "prettier", too, but I remembered several people saying how they loved these bags, and that they're, as Betsy said, good for your back. maybe another time...

Well, gosh-durn-it, I wish I'd found your forum yesterday!
I'm looking for just such a bag, and, in fact, looked on LL Bean, yesterday, but didn't see that one. I think I am using the wrong search terms.
I need one that will work as a "carry on" bag (maximum 17.7 x 10 x 22) and be soft enough to use as a pillow (or something to lean against, at least) on a long airplane trip.
I'm getting ready for a very long trip... more than 24 hours from Dallas to Auckland, NZ.
If I search for "carry-on bag", I get regular suit-case type bags, which will be too hard-sided to serve my purpose.
If I search for "back pack", I get school back packs that are too small... I want to come as close as possible to that 17.7x10x22 limit.
Actually I joined your forum to ask if any of you have experience with charging a Kindle 2 during such a long flight.
My son, who lives in New Zealand, says the first class seats do have electrical outlets, but he's never seen one elsewhere.
When I searched on Amazon for "Kindle Battery Pack", I did get some hits, but they are "third party sellers" and I don't know whether to trust that they will really work or not.
If anyone has any suggestions... on either subject... they would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
CJ

If you fully charge your Kindle 2 before leaving, leave Whispernet off, and you can top it off at the airport if you need to before you board, it should easily last the flight as it shouldn't need to be charged more than once a week or so with Whispernet off, even with a lot of reading.
I think you'll get plenty of bag suggestions from the enablers here! Welcome to KindleBoards, CJ!

Thanks for the welcome, Betsy!
My battery isn't lasting nearly that long... but I am using the voice feature a lot... I like to have it read to me when I'm doing boring chores... could that be the problem?
Does paging back and forth within a book also run the battery down more quickly? I do a lot of that, too.
I knew to leave Whispernet off, but had not thought about voice and paging around as being a problem.
Of course, Whispernet will be useless to me the minute I leave the USA... and I just had a disheartening realization about the "Classics Library" I've been building up... but leaving in my Archives, thinking I could download them if and when a family member (such as my grandson who now lives in New Zealand) wanted to read them. I'll have to download all of them before I leave, won't I?
Thanks,
CJ .

Yes, I'm afraid you will, if you want access to them overseas. You can download books from a computer and not use Whispernet, but with the release of the international Kindle, using a computer to download from outside the US has become difficult, apparently.
The page turning should not impact you as much, the voice feature definitely will. The TTS is running constantly unlike reading only--when you're not actually turning a page, you're not using much juice. If you're happy to just read on the plane, you should be fine.
Last year sometime, someone on the forum experimented with an external battery and didn't have a good experience. That's extremely anecdotal, but I wouldn't risk it with my Kindle.

Yes, if you're just going to read on the plane, you should absolutely be fine. If downloading all the books to your K is a problem, do you have one of those small USB thingos that you can store things on? You could put your books on it, transfer them to your grandson's pc when you get there, then using the USB cord for your K, you can put the books he chooses to read onto your K. Couple of links to get you started: Newegg -$9.99 4 gig.Amazon -$6.00! 4 gig

Cat,
I want to thank you... and the other person who named the bag as LL Bean's version of "AmeriBag.
I didn't get in on the sale, but with the clues you provided, I was able to find exactly what I wanted
I had been looking and looking, but just could not find a bag that was right for me. The reason, I guess, was that I didn't know the right key words.
Once I read your descriptions about the AmeriBag, I knew that would work... and found it on Amazon.
It's just exactly what I wanted... not any prettier than the LL Bean bag [smile}... and it would have been nice to find it on sale... but I did get it on Amazon's Prime plan, so free shipping.
I got the size large... which is just barely under New Zealand Air's carry on requirement, and because the bag, itself, is so lightweight, I can lift it to the overhead bins... which I can't do with my conventional carry-on bag.
Thanks again to you both!
CJ
