I have been a lurker+ on the Kindle Boards since almost the beginning, checking and reading them at least once a week. I agree with all those who want "Folders" on their home pages to organize books...I want that too. However, I see another unanswered need, that is, the ability to rename book titles. Why would I want to do that? Read on.
I'm not talking about ordinary books with a straight forward title. However, there are many series of books where all the titles in the series begin with the same words such as the Hardy Boys, The Adventure of the Tower Treasurer or ...the Airport Murder" or any other title. When these appear on the 'Home' Page', they all read the same and if you have ten of them, you have ten of the same titles since the 'Home Page' truncates the title after x number of letters. The only way to fine the one you want is to open then, one by one, until you find the one you want.
I have been collecting (on my Kindle) a book series written and published in the 1920s and 1930s and every one reads the same on the 'Home Page'. I'm not ranting...just hoping.

I agree completely, maybe someone has figured this out and will enlighten us.

Is the K2 different from the K1 for titles? If I scroll to a truncated title, the whole title will come up. For example, I have The Red Cross of Gold I - XIV. The Red Cross of Gold is all that shows on the Home or Archive page for each of the 14 titles; but, if I put the cursor on a specific one, the full title will show, like The Red Cross of Gold V: the Quinta Essentia.

So far have not moved all my "long" titles over so don't know the answer to this. I was wondering the same thing after I posted

I have a K1 and it does the same as the K2. I just move the cursor up to the title in question to find the complete listing.

Yes, mine is a K1 as well not a K2. I was wondering if the K2 was different or if the OP just hadn't noticed that feature on the K2. I didn't express myself very well. If the K2 doesn't have that feature, it is another point in favor of hoping my K1 works forever.

Oops! Crebel, I read your post as if you had a K2. I guess that's what a screaming almost 3-yr old in the background will do for ya!

If you use Calibre, you can edit the title of the books in a series by adding I, II, III etc of 01, 02, 03 before the title or anywhere within the Title, so you can find the book of your choice. Then USB the books back to your Kindles.

I know you can do this with the stuff in the public domain. But does it also work with files that have DRM?

Well, once again, I misspoke about renaming a book. Sorry. I added initials in front of a book that I read and it came through from Calibre as "new" and the same book name without the initials. So, If you rename the book, it just seems to come through as "new". Sorry.

Well, eventually we should be able to change the names. It finally happened for mp3 files...

Okay, sorry to be dense here. So we CANNOT rename books in Calibre after all? I had always wondered about this, too, then I saw this thread and read some more threads about Calibre. So I downloaded it but won't have a chance to actually play around with it until Thursday. If we cannot rename books with Calibre, I'm not sure I need to use that program at all.

You can rename the books in calibre, however if the book is protected by drm it will not change the metadata so when you transfer the book the original name will reappear on the kindle. If the book is not protected by drm then you can save the changes to the metadata and the name change will be permanent.
It can still be useful when cataloging your books in calibre to be able to rename them even if you can't make permanent changes to the metadata. I do it all of the time.
