Hello there!
Just last week I have ordered my first Kindle and I am very exited to get it (international version)
Because I want for the US books to be available to me, I did put in my 1click ordering settings a New York address, everything is fine, and Amazon sees me as an American customer (even though it seems I can't change back to the UK, but that is not an issue).
I was exited enough to buy myself a gift card and attach it to my account for my first kindle book, however, in my wish list it says : "kindle books are not available to purchase on a gift card".
Bare in mind I haven't god the kindle yet, it's on its way.
My question is: Will Amazon debit the gift balance first when I use 1click to buy a book , even if in my wish list, kindle books can not be bought on gift cards ? or I have just made a big mistake and lost 10 dollars?
I have read on numerous posts that people do buy kindle books with gift cards, so I am a bit confused.....
thank you! And I am very happy to be a new *kindler*

You can buy Kindle books using your gift card, but others can't buy items off your wishlist, gift card or not.  Just apply the gift card to your account (it's one of the options under "My Account") and any one-click purchases, including Kindle books, will come from that before your credit card is charged.

I'm not sure about the  $1.99 charge, but if, when purchasing books, instead of sending it to your device, you download/send it to your computer and transfer the book via the USB cable you would definitely be able to avoid the cost.... again, so long as you don't forget to change the send to option.

I am talking about the charge when as "a US customer travelling abroad" I need to pay for the international use as whispernet. I know about the USB route and thank you for mentioning it, but I really want to see at least once the magic happening on the device. Grin

Welcome Alex - you will not get charged the out of country fee if you buy and download to your computer.  You probably cannot charge to your gift card until you get your kindle in hand, but that is just a supposition not a fact.

Anyone know if you can buy a gift card through Amazon.com, send it via email and use it on Amazon.co.uk?

We are still waiting for my in-laws to send us their X-mas list (from the UK) and now it's too late to have something shipped.  We're looking for a good solution.

my MIL buys me UK amazon gift cards and I can not use them here. When I get stuff for my inlaws I use my amazon.co.uk account. if you want to private message me, I can probably get you the gift cards.

Cheers for the offer.  I have an amazon.co.uk account, but thought it would be easier ordering from here.  Just tired of the hassle.  Thanks so much for the info & offer!!
