This device is amazing! It should be subsidised by the government and given to students and to anyone who likes reading actually. My greatest fear was that I will not get the same feeling when finishing a book on kindle as I get when I finish a paper book - FALSE, I had the same desperate feeling as I wished the book would stretch forever. I am happy to be one of you guys, and this was the best b-day gift ever!

I had the same reaction - thought maybe there would a feeling of something missing from the whole reading experience, some sort of compromise for the sake of portability but on the contrary I read MORE now and love doing it on a Kindle. Wish I had gotten one when they first came out instead of dithering for almost a year. And Happy Birthday!

Oh thank you so much, I totally get what you are saying. My birthday however is in December but I convinced my parents I couldn't live another day without my Kindle, so we compromised.... but thank you again you are most kind!

Alex - well all here can relate to your experience. I was not worried though, I just went ahead and did it, and have I ever been absolutely delighted. And I have found so many genres and authors, true most from here, but have not looked back.
Don't forget to check out the Book Bazaar and Book Corner for inexpensive and great books.

Thank you Anju, I really do need something less expensive now, I thought that that 20$ on my Amazon account will get me far but I've already spent it....if it keeps going this way ( and I have this feeling that it will) I need to get a better paid job. I'll make sure to look into your suggestion.

I'll make sure to look into your suggestion. there are LOTS of free books available on Amazon and most of them are great - the only problem is sometimes it introduces you to a new author with a new series that you now have to read ALL of ..... And we have some fantastic authors here on Kindle Boards - check out their stuff - you will be hooked again. darn all these things mean more money for books eventually -- well I can always take more cans to be recycled and hit the coinstar machines for more gift certificates to Amazon - got $16 last week...

The only bad/good thing about finishing a book on Kindle versus a DTB is that when you finish you don't have to go to the store and get another book, you just download a new book. Don't get me started on a series LOL It's very easy to forget it's money when you get 1-click happy. I find tons of free or cheap books, but I know lots of people use gift cards to keep their budget in line. I have to say, I can keep my house budget in order but there is something about having a bookstore in your hand that makes me a little click happy. LOL

Amazon should use this as an advertising slogan... Betsy

Yes indeed they should use that. Here is my first policy as future president or something: Kindle should be accessible to anyone in the world

Spent a couple weeks on the beach in Naples, read for hours. It was so nice to finish a book, hit a couple keys and within @ 20 seconds the next book is there. No settling for what's on the grocery store shelves or a special trip to a bookstore. I have a cousin who reads a lot, many authors we both like. I'll buy and read a dozen books and she'll buy and read a dozen different ones, in a couple months we'll trade kindles for a couple months.

I have a similar situation, although my cousin and I have our own kindles, we are on the same Amazon account (you do have to trust your cousin) but if you trust her with your kindle there is some trust there. Anyway we each put in $25 GC each month, that's $50 USD to spend on books and we can download and read whatever at our leisure. That way you don't have to worry about whose kindle you have

Kindle is an awesome device. I've had mine for almost a year and I love it just as much as the first day. Probably more. deb
