http://www.portatronics.com/index.php?cat=c87_Ebook-Readers.html&XTCsid=e35eba5ddf63184c872f38297f5d8850Saw this while lurking around "That Other Forum" and hadn't seen it posted here yet. (Mods, if this is a duplicate thread, please feel free to delete) Poster says they repaired his K for $99. (Didn't say what was wrong with it) Diagnostics, results and repair quote for $9 plus shipping...prices for other repairs/ parts listed on website. Anyone else know of this company? Any experience with them? (They do other electronics repair) If reliable, this is very good news for me. I happen to prefer the K1 and have saved enough pennies to pick up a refurb (if they ever become available again) just for back up. Knowing I may be able to have my K repaired is very comforting, as I am quite attached. Although, I've no need of it now, my K works perfectly, I've certainly bookmarked the site, just in case, ya' know?

My K1 got sick and when I wrote kindle customer service they said it would be $99 for repair. I have written again to find out where to send it but have not heard back yet. i have bought a K2i but do like my K1 a whole bunch and would like to have it as my backup.

Now see, you learn something everyday. This is the first I've heard of Amazon "repairing" a K. Don't know how I missed that. It sometimes seems I read almost as much about the Kindle as I do on it.

Do you happen to have a link to the original post on Amazon? If it's $9 for diagnotics and $59 for installation, I'm really curious what the problem turned out to be, since there are no parts listed for $31.

My reply from CS said they need to talk to me, so maybe will call on Friday since tomorrow is a holiday. I'll let you know what happens on my adventure.

$99 for k1 might be a bit expensive. I might as well just add another 50, sell broken k1 on ebay(somebody will buy it in broken form so they could repair and resell it) and good to go

But getting it to the purchaser can be a real hassle from Mexico I could probably sell it fixed here for more money.

Angelad, true, it's not cheap. But I was thinking more along the lines of...What if there are no more K1's available, or so few as to be unattainable? (It could happen.)
I just like knowing I have the option to repair. Of course, maybe K3 will lure me away, who knows?
Anju, please let me know how your conversation with CS goes. I'm interested in the outcome. Thanks.

I do have some friends heading for the states (north) in a couple of weeks and depending on what CS says will send it with them. I did buy a K2i when the K1 went belly up and even though there are things I do like about the K2i I am not too terribly sure I want to give up the K1 it has a lot of plusses as well.

My call back long distance system has been down for a few days, so finally was able to call CS this morning. They are sending a refurb, arrival tomorrow, unfortunately not to Mexico, and I have the shipping labels to send my poor K1 in for refurb. Total cost to me is $99. She told me that the refurb cost right now is $199. We had a horrible connection but Brittany was very patient with my asking her to repeat and with my having to repeat. As expected, excellent Customer Service from Amazon KINDLE CS. Oh yes, I have 30 days to send in my dead K1, so have a friend going back to the states and she will send it in for me.
