I almost killed my boyfriend last night. He almost sat on my Kindle! It's in my bag, which was on the table. He was moving some stuff on the table and put my bag on the sofa. I walked in the living room just as he was absent-mindedly sitting down to watch TV. I screamed at him and told him I'd kill him if he broke my Kindle. Then I snatched up my bag, took out the Kindle, and made sure it was OK. This isn't the first time there has been a close call. He knocked my bag off the counter one day and I about ripped his head off. (The Kindle was safe!) He's just a very clumsy guy. Apparently he must have felt from the tone of my voice I would make good on the threat, because he looked up at me with his pretty blue eyes and said "You love that thing more than me." I told him that was not true. I don't think he believes me, though.   |

Are you sure he's not jealous of the kindle and isn't out to get it? My husband makes comments about how much more I read now. "You sure do read that thing a lot". |

I am a bit of an avid photographer, and one of my kids once asked me a hypothetical question. "If we were in a boat and it started to sink, what would you save first.....us (4 kids) or your camera gear?"
I looked at her and said quite seriously "You guys can all swim."
I am a bit smitten with my Kindle too, and my husband gave me a strange look when I asked him to wash his hands before I gave it to him to read something on.

Saw the title and my first thought was, "Well, duh..." My mother in law asked my husband if he read anything on my Kindle. His response was, "Are you trying to get me killed? I don't go near that thing, I think she'd bite me if I tried." Thankfully for me, he's stated flatly he's not interested in one until there's full color, so mine's relatively safe from any chance he'll abscond with it. And I never leave it in a bag. I'd be as likely to sit on it as he would! The minute I get home, the iPhone and Kindle come out of the purse and get set either on my nightstand or on the end table next to the couch. The Kindle is on an easel, so it's not something he's likely to move someplace stupid or knock over easily. |

I am thinking...Kindles are probably safer in a stand when idle. I always fear someone will put something heavy on top of mine if I leave it on the table.

I NEVER allow the KDX to be laying horizontally unless it is sitting under a shelf where nothing can fit on top of it. I found placing it where no one will even have a chance to place something on top of it is best. I would be the one that sat on it or placed something on it too.

You're welcome, JeanneB, We have a new HD TV, so we slide the KDX under the screen, so it is not visible to anyone and nothing can be placed on it. |

I have the 2nd one pictured in Harvey's post - the iZel - and I love it! It was a little pricey at $25 but since it unfolds and lays flat, it fits nicely in my Belkin Kindle case right behind my Kindle so I have it with me all the time. My family is used to seeing me with a book so it was not much of a transition to see me with my Kindle all the time. I am currently reading a thick DTB (which is not available in Kindle, darn it) and my husband said to my 4 year old "Doesn't it look funny to see Mommy reading a book?" The 4 yr old answered him very seriously "That is 'cause it is not on Kindle or she would have her Kindle." My job is complete. My Kindle and iphone are always put in the same spots and nothing is put on them....ever. |

I have a messenger bag with my Kindle 2, netbook, digital camera, digital recorder, Pacmate with braille display attached, this I use for note taking and on foot GPS navigation, Victor Reader Stream, a digital talking book reader for the blind, and other small accessory gadgets, sitting on a chair in the living room. I leave everything in the bag until I need it. I have done this for many years, and it works great. That chair is for no other purpose than to hold the gadget messenger bag, so there is no chance that any of the gear will be damaged or destroyed. By the way, the Stream, mentioned above, is a blind person's version of the Kindle. When this device came out blind people bought them in droves. They talk about in the same way Kindle owners talk about the Kindle.

Thank-you Amazon for the Kindle, I am reading print again after being away from it for 15 years because of decreasing vision. I never walk out my front door without my Kindle DXG and Fire, they have been both liberating and life changing for me. Thanks again. Sincerely, Gene

We were all about to sit around the table and have a snack. My son said to my hubby, move mom's kindle....he replied, no sir, I'm not touching that thing! Won't be my fault if something happens to it.

Every year someone buys me a new dinnerware set for Christmas. And every year someone NEEDS to but me a new dinnerware set for Christmas! Which is why HE is not allowed to read books on MY Kindle! |
