I bought my sister a Kindle for Christmas, the thing is she didn't ask for it - I'm just assuming she'll love it, like we do.
 Huh
We may be celebrating Christmas during Thanksgiving, so I may find out soon.

Well, if she hates it, you have 30 days to return it...

But, if she's a reader, or a technogeek or better, both, then she'll love it and you'll have problems getting her to the table for dinner.

I want to buy my mother one but she hasn't really shown an interest in mine to be honest. A couple of weeks ago she did call me in a panic on Friday saying her car was messed up and she needed me to take her to the library. She only had 4 books to last through the weekend LOL. I told her if she had a kindle she would never have that problem again. I'm thinking about getting her a Sony pocket reader so she can access library books.

I'd say being your sister she should love it - but then my sister, even though she is a reader, does not want my K1.  Hopefully your sister is smarter than mine is  Roll Eyes

I'll keep my fingers crossed that she'll love it.

Mel, does your mom live in or near Ohio by chance?
If so, they have a wonderful e-resource library.

Deb, no she lives in Illinois. We have a pretty good selection of ebooks available at our library, not awesome but enough to keep her in books for awhile.

Adele, you are one excellent sister! I can't imagine she won't like it--everyone who's seen mine wants one, but is put off by the price.  Undecided

If I was a gambler, I'd put money down that she will love it!  Even if she is hesitant at first, she will soon learn what a wonderful little device it is!  Smiley

As long as she's never disparaged the kindle in your presence, or said "I would never want one of those" chances are she'll like it.

When I told her I read newspapers on it she did say that she is one who likes to hold a newpaper.  I got her the K2, not the DX (couldn't quite pull that off, price wise). I'll mention she can get a trial subscription and see how she likes it or just use it for books.

Good point about the 30 days - I hadn't thought of that.

I know how you feel.  My niece and I, both of whom have Kindles, have bought one for her mother (my SIL) for Christmas.  She's not a huge reader (4 kids, aged 9-21, and works nights), just getting to the spot she might be able to spend time reading.  BUT, for her birthday I bought her an Oberon journal, and when she opened it I know she thought it there was a Kindle inside, and she was so disappointed.  No good deed, and all that.  So, I have a spare Amazon K2 cover and for Christmas morning I'll have my niece steal the journal, put together the ensemble with a few books on the Kindle, and hope for the best.

I hadn't thought of the 30-return, though.  I've ordered it already.  Oh well, there's always KB to sell on.

I'll find out tonight - she is coming over for Thanksgiving and we will be celebrating Christmas since she'll be out of town for Christmas.

I got a call from my daughter last night and she was telling me how much she has gotten into reading lately - so if my sister doesn't like it then I will give it to my daughter.  If my sister does like it then I might have to figure out how I'm going to pull off getting ANOTHER ONE for my daughter. Shocked

Will she like it?
Answer - Her response upon opening the box - Oh, it's a Kindle  Huh
She wasn't thrilled, but she is going to give it a try.  I told her we have 30 days to return it.  Now I have to wait to see if she is going to like it.

I hope she likes it. I like to hold books, and thought that I might miss that. The fact that I can carry around so many of my favorites and/or books on my to-read list far outweighs the advantage of being able to hold a real book. I LOVE my Kindle, which was a Mother's Day gift from my daughters and my husband. I can't imagine NOT having it!

I think sometimes people are afraid it will be difficult to use....
