IMHO.. three things NEED to be changed on the Kindle to make it a totally awesome e-book reader. Some are already available by "hacks", but I really don't like having to resort to this method to get the functionality that should be included... in no particular order.....
1. FOLDERS (or other method of cataloging and arranging your library). This is a no brainer. Should have been included in the original release. Heck, even DOS 2.0 let you create folders on your floppies!
2. Changeable and down loadable font support. Can be done through a hack, but let us keep different fonts and sizes in a FOLDER (see above) and choose which one we want at any time.
3. Support for secure MOBI format, and let us see our PID. (also available as a hack) Would allow the Kindle to be used at public libraries to "borrow" books that they have available in e-book format.
(and one other NICE TO HAVE)
The ability to put our own screen savers on. (available as a hack)
See a trend here? Three of the above are already available as hacks. C'mon Amazon.... Make these standard features! I love my Kindle. Make it better!

We're getting #1 sometime next year. I'm hoping that Amazon sends it early--possibly the next few weeks to steal some nook thunder.
I can only hope that Amazon adds some of the other features as well. Unless they (god forbid) come out with a Kindle 3 next year, they are going to have to do something to stem the nook tide. While I'm not giving the 'lending' claim any credence, their support for other formats is pretty nice.

My number 1 better contrast. At this point I'll give up folders for that.

There are workarounds, but I"d rather have official support. Carl

I would also like it to have an expansion slot and a replaceable battery like the nook has.

Having started with the Kindle 1, I can't say that I miss them. I also haven't needed a new battery, nor have I run out of disk space.

I have my K1, and have never upgraded... and twice I ran out of space... but I just deleted a few samples I decided I did not want...I am sure if I had a K2, I would not have run out.. But I like my k1, and my unhacked screensavers.

I ran out of space again the other day. . . . . .just moved another couple of pages to my SD card. I must say, I only got the SD card because I could. . . .I never imagined I'd actually fill up the Kindle. . . . .but there it is.

And if you get too full you can always move your books to your computer for "storage"

I've run out of space for the fourth time now. I just organize stuff on SD cards and they BECOME my folders. K1...love it.
