Really? I was going to hold Nebulinda in reserve. Betsy Don't go making mad faces. I can do it but thought I'd take the 2nd or 3rd turn after observing a while if someone else was ready and wanting to do it now.

At first Ford had formed a theory to account for this strange behavior. If human beings don't keep exercising their lips, he thought, their mouths probably seize up. After a few months' consideration and observation he abandoned this theory in favor of a new one. If they don't keep on exercising their lips, he thought, their brains start working.

Lizzy, I think Susan may be referring to the free bookklub. It is getting a little confusing but The Outlander is posted in The Book Corner/Bookklub Thread. This was a suggestion about a bookklub beginning with a free book and escalating in price until it reaches 9.99. Is that clear as mud? I think Betsy has planned to do some clean up work on this thread. Hope this helps. Sorry. Thank you for the explanation. Im still pretty new here and all these book klub threads are mixing me up. We moved it up to 12/29. Everyone (including me) was very anxious to start.
Thank you! I just bought Outlander so i'll be ready to go.

I would, in fact, be willing and eager to lead a book klub right now. And I'm all for starting as soon as possible. I could start tomorrow (I have to finish an essay tonight), but I'm sure everyone else wants more time.
Maybe for a start a poll could be posted of the current free books on Amazon. I know that a lot of them are going to be free until February. But if people are open to it, I'd like to suggest South, by Earnest Shackleton. It's the true story of a stranded expedition to Antarctica during WWI. You can get it for free on ManyBooks.

I'd personally like to start after the holidays, and that was the initial reaction to the book klubs when we first proposed them. I see the free book klub as being long term club, so once we start it, it will go for awhile. Tonight after I stop working on this quilt project, I'm going to set up a poll with the free books, and move all the posts about the free book klub into that thread. Patience folks! I'm trying to actually have a life now that I can walk again! Young people today.... Betsy

Based on the posts here and elsewhere in the Book Corner there's a lot of interest in a Free Book Club. I've had requests for all Free Books and there's also an interesting suggestion to start free and escalate the price up to $9.99. You may vote twice; vote once for the Format and once for the Book Choice. These are the free books that have been recommended so far.
I'm thinking this club might begin in mid January, but we'll want to pick the book early to allow people to get it in case it's an Amazon book and stops being free. Be sure to check the Book Klub Guidelines sticky also for more information on our Book Klubs.
Thanks for voting!

I didn't read the generalized discussion questions before I suggested South, and now I think that maybe a nonfiction book isn't the best for a book club. I mean, I still want to read it, and already voted for it, and will discuss it enthusiastically (unless, of course, I end up hating it), but that's something to keep in mind for people who haven't voted yet.

I think there are separate generic questions for a non-fiction book club; I'll dig them out; we just hadn't had a nonfiction book suggested yet, and I forgot that. By all means, we should consider non-fiction as well as fiction. Remember everybody, vote once for book club format and once for the book, unless you don't care about the format. You can also go back and change your vote by clicking on the Remove Vote. Betsy

I have cast my vote. I voted free books only. My reason being we have the other bookklubs and I think it could also become a bit confusing with the increasing price thingy. I've had Whiskey Rebels on my wish list since the end of Sept when Liesel was delivered.

I read Caught Stealing and ended up reading the whole trilogy. All three books were very good and all 3 are FREE!
It is an R rated series. There is lots of strong language, sex, violence, heavy drug use, animal cruelty and other adult themes. If the reader can deal with all that, it's an excellent series of books.

I picked free and South because i like disaster stories especially true ones like Into Thin Air and Forever On The Mountain and stuff like that. There the only types of non fiction books that i ever read.

I never learn to knitted or to quilting so I don't have to worry about it taking time away from my kindle.

have not read any of those books yet so I could not vote on one. And like some others have said the book does not stay free so everyone who would want to do a certain book would have to speak up and get it while it is free.

I think it would be fun to start free and then randomly pick a price point for each new book. [Next Month's book must cost between $3.26 and $5.17. Suggestions taken the next 24 hours. Voting begins immediately afterwards and will conclude 30 hours from now. GO!]

It looks like Whiskey Rebels is going to be our discussion book. So, since the holidays are pretty much over perhaps we should decide on a date. I suggest sometime in January. If we wait until after most of the current book clubs and do it in March or after I probably won't be able to participate because that's when the semester gets the most busy.

Nebulinda,
I agree, we should do in January, we're going to have to start doing these in parallel as there's just not enough time! Let me look at the calendar and get back to you in a minute!
